Chapter 1681:

Rhett gagged Nicole again and sneered, “Did you know Jarrod is here? “He has come alone to meet his miserable end.”

Nicole felt helpless.

Shortly after, Jarrod was spotted outside the room. Upon confirming Nicole's safety and seeing her almost unharmed, Jarrod's tension eased slightly. He was not surprised to see Rhett.

The police had been closing in on Rhett for some time. Despite the risks, Jarrod had decided to come alone to protect Nicole.

“I’m here,” Jarrod announced to Rhett.

Rhett greeted him with a sly smile. “Mr. Schultz, just in time. “Let’s play a game.”

Jarrod, suspicious, replied: "What game am I playing? Just don't hurt Nicole, and you can take my life instead."

“Don't be hasty,” Rhett said, laying out the rules. “I'll ask you a question. Answer it correctly, and you'll move on safely. Answer it incorrectly, and you'll have to decide. “Either I hurt Nicole, or you step into these bear traps.”

“I’ll take the traps,” Jarrod immediately declared, willing to sacrifice himself to keep Nicole safe.

Rhett chuckled. “Ah, Mr. Schultz, always so romantic.”

“Let's get started. Do you remember the name of the girl who died in your car accident six years ago?” Rhett asked.

Jarrod stood there stunned, not knowing the answer. Prioritizing Nicole's safety, he stepped into the bear traps. The traps snapped shut on his legs, and blood began to pour out.

Despite his agony, Jarrod kept his composure and replied, “I don't know.”

Rhett, gripping the knife, scoffed: “Her name was Frida Chadwick. Obviously, someone who was hogging all the medical attention wouldn't remember that.”

Jarrod, through searing pain, explained: “I only learned later of the loss of a little girl. At the time, I was given priority by the emergency services because of my severe injuries. Her critical injuries went unnoticed at the time, but I compensated her family.”

Although Jarrod was not at fault, he still felt the heavy burden of the young woman's death and had compensated her family with a million dollars.

“You think I would believe you?” Rhett shouted, his expression frantic. “You survived and my girlfriend died, ignored by everyone!”

Rhett's tone turned unhinged as he walked out of the game. “You're all heartless! “You all deserve to die!”

In his rage, Rhett raised his knife, aiming it at Nicole's abdomen. Jarrod reacted instantly, intercepting the knife with his leg and pushing Nicole to safety as she struggled with Rhett.

Rhett, unharmed, was quick to take over from Jarrod. At that moment, Nicole, overwhelmed by contractions and her water breaking, realized she was about to give birth.

Rhett, with venom in his eyes, sneered, “My girlfriend died along with the unborn baby. Do you think your child will be born safe and sound?”

Rhett moved toward Nicole, but Jarrod clung to him desperately.

Rhett responded by repeatedly kicking Jarrod, leaving him bruised and bloodied. Nicole, dying, could only scream helplessly.

Seeing that Jarrod was still clinging to him, Rhett pulled out a makeshift gun and pointed it at Jarrod. Jarrod, unable to dodge due to his injuries from the traps, clung to Rhett and shouted to Nicole, “Run!”

Rhett declared fiercely, “None of you will get out of here alive!”

At that critical moment, a loud bang echoed through the room. Filled with adrenaline, Nicole broke free from her bonds and hit Rhett's head with a brick.

The bullet missed and the makeshift gun slipped from Rhett's hands. Clutching his head, Rhett tried to retrieve the makeshift weapon, but Jarrod grabbed it first and pointed it at Rhett.

The situation reversed, and Rhett unexpectedly fell to his knees.

With a sinister smile, Rhett looked up and challenged Jarrod, “You dare kill me?”

Rhett pointed to a distant camera, saying, “I have that camera to broadcast the scene here live. If you kill me, you will be branded a murderer. I have been diagnosed with mental illness. What can you do to me? If I fail to kill you today, I will try again. But I will attack you first. Then I will go for your child, then your unborn child, and then Nicole. Only after that will I come for you. Understood?”

Rhett's chilling words were laced with madness, continually provoking Jarrod. “You'll never be able to kill me, but I can reach everyone you love. I'm not just a patient. I'm a genius. I can disguise myself and infiltrate the lives of those you love. Do you think you can protect them forever? “I’ll make sure they always live in fear,” Rhett taunted with a maniacal laugh.

Jarrod replied firmly, his resolve unwavering: “You won't get the chance.”

Jarrod was determined not to let his family live under the shadow of fear. His finger pulled the trigger. “Bang!”
