Chapter 1626:

? ? ? ? ?

Nicole wanted to keep the details of her pregnancy, especially her relationship with Jarrod, a secret.

As she began to feel better, Nicole checked her phone and noticed that she had missed several calls from Davina. Worried, she wasted no time in returning the call. Davina's voice sounded tearful and anxious.

“Miss Lawrence, are you okay? I called the driver and he said he dropped you off here. I tried to reach him several times and he blocked me. I was so worried…”

Nicole quickly reassured Davina: “I’m fine, really. I was feeling a bit unwell and went to the hospital. “A friend went with me.”

Davina, although somewhat relieved, was still worried, pressing: "To the hospital? I'll be there right away."

“There’s really no need,” Nicole replied, aware of Davina’s previous alcohol consumption.

"You should go home and rest. I'm in good hands. I'll manage on my own after the IV."

“I can't leave you alone,” Davina insisted, concern evident in her voice.

"I should be there with you."

“Really, there’s no need,” Nicole said softly. “My friend is here and will walk me home later. By the time you get there, I'll probably be done with the IV. Please go home and rest.”

After several more reassurances, Davina reluctantly agreed, urging Nicole to take care of herself before ending the call.

After ending the call, Nicole looked up to find Rhett still present. “Mr. Bates, you can go home now. I’m feeling much better and I’ll be able to manage on my own soon.”

Nicole didn't want to burden Davina any further, especially knowing that she had been working hard. Feeling better, she felt capable of handling things independently.

But Rhett replied, “That won't help. Besides, you already mentioned that someone would take you home. Leaving you behind wasn't an option. “I should take you home to make sure you come back safe and sound.”

Nicole couldn't help but laugh at his reasoning. Rhett's cheerful demeanor was comforting, and his presence was strangely soothing.

“Okay then,” Nicole slowed. She had already trusted his kindness, so allowing him to help her to the end seemed appropriate.

Thinking of a token of gratitude for Rhett, Nicole pondered what would be appropriate. A simple gift seemed too impersonal, and she doubted Rhett would accept it. She decided to choose a thoughtful gift.

Rhett maintained a professional demeanor and rarely accepted more than the agreed upon fee.

However, Nicole felt indebted to him for his numerous acts of help.

When the IV drip was finished, Rhett called a nurse to remove the needle and then brought a wheelchair for Nicole.

Looking at the wheelchair, Nicole hesitated and said, “Is this really necessary?” Feeling considerably better, she didn't think she needed it.

However, Rhett insisted: “It is better if you sit down. “It would be uncomfortable for me to read on you, and the wheelchair offers more comfort.”

Rhett respected personal boundaries, refraining from unnecessary physical contact, a quality Nicole appreciated. His actions were always impeccably balanced.

So Nicole agreed and settled into the wheelchair while Rhett guided her to the elevator.

However, just as the doors opened, a commotion arose behind them.
