Chapter 1622:

“Please…” His voice broke as he raised his eyes to meet hers, filled with a raw and sincere plea. “Nicole, from the bottom of my heart, I beg you, do not abandon our son. I swear to grant you the freedom you so desire. “I give you my word.”

Nicole's body stiffened and her face became rigid and resistant. This instinctive reaction was her immediate and profound response to his desperate plea.

Jarrod was momentarily stunned by Nicole's reaction. A bitter smile spread across his face as he released her. He realized, with a heavy heart, that Nicole would never again feel affection or attachment towards him.

The only emotions she seemed to harbor now were hatred and disgust. The way she threw him away took away all hope from him. His indifference was like a blade in his heart.

For Nicole, Jarrod's emotional plea was nothing more than a minor blip, insignificant in the grand scheme of her life. She responded in a cold, distant tone, “Since you're awake, I'll be back. I hope you get better soon.”

His words were not warm. They were a mere formality, spoken because he was the father of his child and a semblance of civility had to be maintained. Nothing more.

“Get some rest, Nicole.” Jarrod's voice had a resigned tone as he headed for the door.

Just as Nicole reached for the doorknob, Jarrod's voice stopped her. “Hey, Nicole!”

Nicole turned and looked at him curiously. Taking advantage of the moment, Jarrod spoke with determination. “I will take care of Doreen. Don't worry. “I won’t go easy on her.”

His words were a promise, a declaration of his commitment to keep Nicole and their child safe. With Doreen's actions becoming more volatile, Jarrod understood the urgency of the situation, especially with Nicole pregnant.

If Doreen escaped the repercussions now, there was no telling how arrogant she might become in the future.

Jarrod's decision was firm, his resolve unwavering.

Nicole remained silent. She had no intention of letting Doreen off lightly. As long as Jarrod didn't intervene, that was all she needed.

Each incident had to be judged separately. While Doreen's rape was tragic, her attempt to harm Nicole was a harsh reality.

Nicole had no sympathy for someone who wanted to hurt her.

Returning home, Nicole gave herself over to sleep, seeking solace in her embrace. In fact, the terror she felt as the sulfuric acid threatened to disfigure her was palpable.

For a woman who valued her appearance, the prospect of facial scars was a chilling reality.

While the scars on the body could be disguised, the facial disfigurement would be a permanent mark, impossible to hide.

No amount of money could completely repair the damage caused by sulfuric acid burns. Their impact would last forever.

The cruelty of Doreen's actions, contemplating an act as merciless as throwing sulfuric acid, left Nicole in disbelief. How could one woman harbor such malice towards another?

Recalling the moment when Jarrod fearlessly protected her, a flash of gratitude stirred within Nicole. As quickly as it came, however, it was overshadowed by the realization that Doreen's brazenness stemmed from Jarrod's indulgence.

With this realization, Nicole's gratitude diminished. Jarrod's usual indulgence toward his loved ones had come back to haunt him, and the repercussions of his actions echoed in his hospital room.

After a restful sleep, Nicole felt considerably better.
