Chapter 1618
Chapter 1618:
? ? ? ? ?
With plenty of witnesses and concrete evidence against Doreen, she would not be spared this time.
Given his recent release from prison and the seriousness of his crime, a harsher sentence seemed inevitable. His future looked bleak.
Doreen understood all too well. She had not anticipated that Jarrod would so decisively cast aside family ties. Had she known that her mother's recent actions had drained Jarrod's last reserves of piety, she might have reconsidered her reckless plot.
Desperate, Doreen sobbed, "Jarrod, help me. I can't go to jail again." Fear gripped her now, but it was too late to regret it.
Jarrod ignored Doreen. Her wound was serious and required immediate medical attention.
The bodyguard had already called an ambulance and helped Jarrod into a chair.
Although Jarrod tried to hide his pain, the sweat on his forehead and his paleness betrayed his condition. He seemed on the verge of collapse.
Ignored by Jarrod, Doreen's cries became more desperate. In a pitiful tone, she cried, "Jarrod, I was harassed just now..."
As Jarrod continued to ignore her, Doreen's anxiety reached a fever pitch and she no longer worried about the presence of curious onlookers. She screamed: "Jarrod, I've been assaulted, I've been raped..."
A heavy silence fell over the scene.
Finally, Jarrod looked at Doreen with a frown. “What did you just say?”
Jarrod's words were a lifeline to Doreen. She understood that as long as Jarrod remained attentive to her, he would not abandon her. After all, Jarrod had few family members left in the world. She and her mother were some of her closest relatives. He had watched her grow up, forging a bond that could not be easily broken.
“I'm not sure... I can't say if it was the Hampton family or Watts. I don't know. They blindfolded me, dragged me into an alley and assaulted me… It happened so suddenly…” Doreen was crying, looking totally distraught.
This explained his disheveled appearance, with unmistakable signs of abuse all over his body.
Doreen had already been detained by security guards, who were awaiting the arrival of the police to transfer her to a detention center.
Her actions constituted a crime, so it was impossible to let her go without consequences.
Jarrod frowned, unsure of the veracity of Doreen's words.
However, Nicole believed Doreen's claims. Given Doreen's distressed state and her willingness to vocalize such claims in public, it seemed unlikely that she was being deceitful. No woman would tarnish her own reputation by boldly stating such a thing.
However, Nicole acknowledged that it was nothing more than an effort to evade her responsibility.
“Jarrod, I really didn't mean to hurt you. I was just bewildered, overwhelmed with anger…”
Jarrod lowered his eyes. Despite feeling some sympathy for Doreen's plight, he held firm. “It's not me you should be asking for mercy from.”
Although Jarrod had protected Nicole from harm, Doreen's real target was Nicole herself. It was an act she could not forgive on Nicole's behalf. Furthermore, she had finally come to terms with Nicole, allowing for a brief period of peaceful coexistence.
She couldn't let this incident upset her balance. Had it not been for her recent intervention, Nicole's unborn child would have been…
