Chapter 1615:

? ? ? ? ?

Jarrod waited for Nicole to speak. Instead, Rhett pulled out a document and said, “Mr. Schultz, this is the agreement drawn up as instructed by Ms. Lawrence. Please review it.”

Jarrod took the document and read it.

The conditions Nicole had set for keeping the child were similar to Jarrod's earlier proposal. Her conditions included finalizing the divorce within a week of the child's birth, with no room for delay. It was clear that Nicole felt no attachment to her planned marriage beyond the child.

Additionally, Nicole insisted on living in her own apartment until the child was born. The arrangement would grant her freedom, ensuring that Jarrod would not be able to interfere in her life, including her visits with Austin. Their relationship would be virtually divorced, with only paperwork remaining after the child was born.

To ensure that Jarrod wouldn't back out, Nicole insisted on involving lawyers and having the agreement notarized. She was well aware of Jarrod's tendency to break his promises.

Nicole's decision to keep the child was not just due to Jarrod's suggestion. Her mother's improved condition and her own change of heart had led her to make that decision.

The once unwanted child had slowly become the image of a precious little life. In fact, the child was innocent, it was the adults who were to blame. Therefore, it would not be fair for the child to pay for their mistakes.

Jarrod's lips curved into a bitter, mocking smile. It was a one-sided agreement, and yet he had no choice but to accept it. He had brought this on himself. Selfishly, he wanted to keep the baby, as it was the connection between them, and this was the only way.

Jarrod quickly signed the document and said, "Rest assured that when the child is born, I will set you free."

Jarrod truly believed that letting Nicole go would also be freeing himself. He would spend the rest of his life protecting her and their children. This was the way things were supposed to be, I just realized it too late.

“If there's nothing else, let's leave it at that,” Nicole said as she prepared to leave first.

Jarrod watched her walk out the door, feeling his heart sink further with each step she took.

Outside, as Rhett went to get the car, Doreen suddenly appeared in front of Nicole.

“Nicole!” Doreen cried. Her clothes were disheveled and she looked strangely disheveled.

Even her expression was strange. But the worst thing was the purple bruises that covered her skin, telling signs of abuse and mistreatment.

Nicole frowned. She didn't know what Doreen had been through. She stood still, waiting to see what Doreen would do.

“I hate you! You’ve ruined my life,” Doreen screamed, echoing Hallie’s words.

Nicole couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.

"Why is it always other people's fault when something bad happens to you? That's very convenient: never blame yourself for the consequences of your own actions."

Nicole was puzzled by how Hallie and Doreen thought. No wonder they couldn't empathize. She continued, "Just because Roscoe didn't want you, you resorted to all kinds of dirty means. You even conspired with Miguel to drug and trap Roscoe. Do you really not know how that wedding went down?"

As far as Nicole knew, Doreen was not only aware of the plot, she was part of it.

Nicole couldn't quite figure it out. Did Doreen really love Roscoe? Or was it just some kind of twisted, unhinged obsession? Whatever the answer, it was terrifying. A love she'd rather destroy than let go of had no end.
