Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 156
? ? ? ? ?
Mitchel squeezed Raegan's shoulder tightly and said through clenched teeth, “You can't say that.”
The impact of her divorce on Mitchel was unexpected for Raegan.
It was true that Raegan wasn't completely over it. When she lost her unborn child, her resentment toward Mitchel intensified.
His hatred towards Mitchel was his coping mechanism to ease his pain.
But he realized it was time to let it go. The first step to living a good life was to leave the miserable past behind.
Raegan removed his hand, stood up straight, and said with a neutral expression, “Mitchel, I don't care what's on your mind. Anyway, I'm starting a new life. Ideally, exes would wish each other the best in their future marriages. If you can't do that, I won't force you. But please don't get into my life."
New life? Marriage? Stay out of his life?
Mitchel looked up and his expression turned icy.
"Are you planning to marry someone else?"
Raegan stared at him and considered his question.
What was wrong with his statement? Did you expect her to stay single forever?
A relationship with a wrong guy like him didn't mean she despised all men.
After losing his family, he longed to build one of his own.
But now he wasn't in a hurry to get into a relationship. Even if one day she met a great man, she would be prudent and not let herself be blinded by love.
However, those were not his immediate concerns. Her goal was to improve herself.
"I'm only 22," Raegan says.
"Even if I don't get married now, I will in the future."
Mitchel's hand tensed, and blue veins stood out on the back of it.
Furthermore, his heart twisted in pain. How he wished he could lock her up so she couldn't leave him.
How could she let him marry someone else and then expect him to give her his damn blessing?
“Try it then,” he challenged with a cold expression.
Raegan met his gaze and forcefully pushed him away as she exited the elevator.
Mitchel's handsome face darkened as he watched her leave.
“Raegan, you will come back to me,” he declared with the same confidence with which Raegan had asked him for a divorce.
Raegan, uneasy, quickly closed the door behind her and leaned against it.
Mitchel's assertive tone left her anxious.
His past was a mixture of sweetness and sadness. I didn't want to live it again.
He could keep his composure once or twice. But what if this kept happening? How could I ignore it?
On the other side, Mitchel stared at the closed door, feeling completely isolated by Raegan.
She seemed determined to leave him and start over.
He remembered their happier times, her sensitivity and the way she responded to his flirtations.
Had he forgotten about that?
The thought of another man witnessing her timid pout was unbearable.
Terrible ideas kept coming up in his mind.
Just then, Mitchel's phone rang, breaking him out of his thoughts.
It was an urgent call from his grandfather's house.
Mitchel turned to leave. But before leaving, he couldn't resist looking back at the closed door.
Was Raegan really serious when she said she never wanted to see him again?
It wasn't his decision anyway.
It was late when Mitchel came running back.
Upon entering, he saw chaos. Luciana, with tears streaming down her face, curled up next to the bed. Alexis was standing and, for some reason, looking away from Luciana.
Mitchel's heart ached at the sight. Such a strong woman, now so vulnerable. He approached Luciana to comfort her while casting a cold look at Alexis.
«You just came back today. Shouldn't you be resting?
His words hinted that Alexis was the cause of the problems.
Alexis' expression hardened and he snapped, "I'm your father. Show some respect.”
"Then behave like one," Mitchel replied.
«Am I the one arguing? I haven't said anything. She's the one who breaks things. "I don't even want to be here."
Luciana jumped to her feet and argued, “Do you think I enjoy talking to you? If it weren't for Kyler, I would have divorced you a long time ago.
«Don't get your hopes up. “I didn't come back for you,” Alexis replied, clearly upset.
Then he pointed to Mitchel and added, "Come with me."
With that, Alexis headed to the study.
Once inside, Alexis tossed Mitchel a photo and got straight to the point.
«You're divorced, I know. Tomorrow I want you to meet Eloise, the only daughter of the Benton family.
"What do you mean?" Mitchel asked, bewildered.
Alexis looked sharply at Mitchel and replied, What do I mean? You've been fooling around for two years. It's time for you to settle down in a marriage of convenience.
"I reject a marriage of convenience," Mitchel stated firmly.
As if he hadn't heard what his son was saying, Alexis lit a cigar and continued: "The Benton family's new energy projects could increase our foreign market share by seventy percent. I'm quite satisfied with it. The blind date is just a formality. "You're going to marry her whether you like it or not."
Mitchel went to the window, opened it wide to vent the cigar smoke, and replied with a hint of sarcasm: "Well, if she pleases you so much, why don't you marry her?" Have any of your lovers really benefited the Dixon family?
“You…” Alexis choked with rage and coughed violently. Once he recovered, he slammed his fist on the table and stated: “Mitchel, this is not up for discussion. If you refuse to comply, you are no longer part of this family.
Mitchel gave Alexis a steely look.
«I'm not going to argue with you either. Last time I checked, I had more shares than you. You're in no position to kick me out. If I were you, I would continue living abroad and stay out of the company's affairs.
Alexis's anger turned into a grimace.
"Your mother and grandfather really taught you how to piss off your own father."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
At that moment, Alexis's fury was palpable. He fixed his gaze on Mitchel and asked in frustration, “Don't you realize why I'm doing this? It's for the future of the company! "Think of your mother and your grandfather."
His voice started soft but became more and more energetic.
Mitchel's expression became even colder. He faced Alexis and asked dryly, "Are you really doing this for the family and the company?"
Alexis was stunned for a second and unconsciously looked away.
"Yes of course. “This is all for you.”
A hint of mockery flashed in Mitchel's eyes. He had changed his mind. Finally, he sighed in resignation and said, "Okay, I'll go."
