Chapter 1552:
? ? ? ? ?
Now fully aware of his diminished condition, he felt overwhelmed by deep despair. Life had become an unbearable burden because of his incapacitated body.
Suicide seemed like a dark but appealing way out, however, even the simple act of wielding a knife was more than his weakened body could handle. This inability plunged Alec further into despair.
Having made many enemies throughout his life, Alec preferred to end her on his own terms rather than fall into her hands and face a potentially large end.
This way, he thought, he could avoid further humiliation and find some peace.
Alec's voice was filled with hopelessness. "Let me die," he pleaded, his tone one of utter resignation. "You can't take care of me forever."
It was not a momentary plea. Alec's attempt to end his life would not be the last. He would surely look for another opportunity.
It was clear to everyone that Alec had completely lost his will to live. For most people, it was difficult to imagine how the loss of an arm and physical limitation could destroy his will to continue.
Even with one arm, wasn't there still a life worth living? What could be more crucial than moving forward?
However, our lives are made up of countless aspects, each with a unique meaning.
For Alec, who had always relied on his physical strength, losing an arm meant to lose his position and his purpose, a suffering greater than death itself.
Jarrod stood still, deeply affected by Alec's despair, turned by a complex mix of feelings. He wondered how he would cope with such a devastating blow if he were the one hurt.
With deep sadness, Jarrod walked over and looked Alec in his eyes. Although his face remained stoic, the pain he felt was only palpable to him.
“By giving up, you may think you're finding relief,” Jarrod whispered quietly. “But have you thought about the impact on those you leave behind? Do you want to be burdened with a lifetime of guilt and regret?”
Jarrod quickly grabbed a gauze to press against the deep cut on Alec’s neck and said with grave seriousness, “Alec, you once promised that you would cherish your life. Have you forgotten those words?”
“I…” Alec’s body trembled slightly. “Please don't push me,” he pleaded, his face contorted in pain. “I just want to be free.”
“Alec, there is still a way forward for you. Your left hand can become as skilled as your right,” Jarrod urged with genuine conviction.
“But I can’t accept this!” Alec cried, his voice thick with pain. He stared at Nicole, his eyes burning with a renewed sense of purpose. “I will not allow my sacrifice to be in vain.”
Jarrod caught Alec's gaze and met Nicole's eyes. He pursed his lips and stated firmly, "Alec, think of it as a debt I owe you for your arm."
Alec's brief calm erupted into anger. “Why do you keep defending her?” He grabbed Jarrod's hand, his voice rising almost to a shout. “She's not worth it! “She doesn’t care if you live or die.”
Nicole hadn't expected Alec to point the finger at her. While she wasn't entirely to blame, from Alec's point of view, her decision not to prioritize Jarrod had been a serious mistake. Alec's anger was to be expected.
Despite the unreasonableness of Alec's resentment, Nicole knew that to Alec and the others, the value of her life or Roscoe's was insignificant and disposable.
