Derek's laugh was sinister.

Nicole remained silent. The footsteps were getting closer and Derek had a flashlight. If he headed in her direction, he would definitely see her.

She looked at the bracelet on her hand, which she held tightly to prevent any noise. In a moment of quick thinking, she tied the bracelet around a stone and threw it into the distance, creating a distraction.

As expected, Derek followed the sound, laughing out loud. “I'm coming to get you…”

Then I heard Derek's footsteps approaching the stone.

The nanny had given Nicole the bracelet, saying it was Austin's favorite and was meant to keep her safe. At that critical moment, the bracelet proved its worth.

Having distracted Derek with the bracelet, Nicole hoped that he would search in the wrong direction, thus buying some time.

Once she was sure Derek had gone after the rock, Nicole leaned on a tree to steady herself and then limped toward the edge of the woods. If she had been in the open and without cover, Derek's superior physical strength would have easily overpowered her. So she opted for the challenging terrain of the forest.

But some time had passed and Nicole hoped that there was a rescue team outside, as she had managed to alert Raegan earlier. She was confident that Raegan would not sit idle and would have sent help. If she was lucky, she might run into the rescue team on her way out.

Relying on her memory, Nicole headed for the exit.

Suddenly, I heard Derek's furious shout. "Damn it, where are you hiding thinking you can fool me? When I catch you, I'll ruin your face."

Spurred on by Derek's furious voice, Nicole didn't dare stop and hurried her steps towards the exit.

As they approached the clearing, Nicole's face broke into a relieved smile and she hurried forward.

However, his relief turned to dismay once he was completely out of the way. He had taken the wrong turn. It was a downhill slope, and not only was his car gone, but there was no sign of help anywhere. It was clear that he had chosen the wrong path.

Just as Nicole was feeling desperate, a creepy laugh echoed behind her.

“Hatha. “I’ve finally caught up with you.” Derek also emerged from the forest.

In the open area with nowhere to hide, Nicole had no choice but to descend the slope. But her shaky legs slowed her down.

She had only taken a few steps when Derek grabbed her violently by the hair, cursing: "Damn it, still trying to escape!"

Then he threw his hard to the ground.

“Crack!” Nicole felt as if her knee had shattered.

“Bitch, you did that to my hand on purpose, didn't you?” Even with his hand wrapped in cloth, Derek's movements were still clumsy.

Furious, Nicole snapped at him: “I tried to help you, and this is how you treat me? Aren’t you afraid of karma?”

"Karma? Please. I've made a lot of mistakes, and if karma had to hit me, it would have already. But look, I'm still here, alive and kicking…” His voice trailed off as a sudden flash of lightning crossed the sky.
