Chapter 1269:

? ? ? ? ?

Determination filled his eyes. He wouldn't allow Nicole to threaten Jarrod.

Nicole's car was hit by Derek's silver sedan and overturned.

Fortunately, he landed in a muddy ditch where the soft ground cushioned the impact, and the timely deployment of the airbag prevented more serious injuries.

Nicole, momentarily stunned, soon felt an overwhelming pain in her back, as if her spine had broken.

He grimaced, struggling with his seat belt, then crawled out of the wreckage.

The window was cracked, but held together enough for Nicole to use her hands to pull the remaining shards away. As she did so, the glass dug into her skin, drawing blood. However, she continued on and freed herself from the car.

She looked around. She was very isolated. There was no one around, no cars were passing by, and with her phone destroyed by the accident, she couldn't call for help.

Focusing her attention on a nearby noise, Nicole saw Derek's car crumpled against a tree, smoke billowing from the engine.

The faint sound of music and a flickering light suggested Derek's phone was active inside. Heart racing, Nicole limped over.

Inside, Derek lay unconscious, his phone visible but out of reach on the passenger seat.

He stretched and twisted, until he finally managed to grab the device.

But as she reached for Derek's phone, a drop of something wet fell on her hand, unsettling her. More drops followed, causing her to step back and turn around.

To her horror, Derek, bloodied and weak, approached Nicole, barely able to whisper, “Save me… Save me…”

Only then did Nicole realize that Derek's other hand was pinned under the steering wheel, badly injured. The pain seemed intense. He was having trouble breathing, probably having broken several ribs.

Immobilized, Derek could only count on Nicole for help.

“Miss, save me… Please…” Derek’s plea was filled with desperation.

Nicole eyed him warily, remembering his recent attempt to harm her. Her confidence was won. She was more interested in securing Derek's phone to uncover any incriminating evidence than in his well-being. He was no longer of use to her now.

Sensing her reluctance, Derek implored, “Miss, I am useful. The person behind this is too powerful. My phone alone won't be enough. I can testify and provide evidence that I was coerced into tampering with the samples. Isn’t that what you need?”

His words struck a chord with Nicole. Jarrod's influence was truly formidable, and having Derek as a witness could prove invaluable.

Realizing the potential, Derek continued, “Look at my condition. I'm barely a threat now. You're safe with me. I just want to survive…”

The smoking car posed an imminent threat, its potential explosion was imminent, trapping Derek in a precarious situation.

“Miss, please,” Derek pleaded, his desperation palpable. “I have a two-year-old daughter. She just started talking and calls me ‘Daddy.’ I can’t leave her…”

Understanding Nicole's motive, Derek realized that she was fighting for custody because she cared about her own daughter. He bet that Nicole would be relent when he mentioned her daughter.

In reality, Derek had no affection for his daughter nor any desire to take his wife and cry daughter with him.
