Chapter 1258:
? ? ? ? ?
“How do you know…” Derek started to ask. But he instantly realized that something was wrong and abruptly changed his tone, exclaiming, “Stop talking nonsense!”
Maybe he was still on a high after meeting his lover. Besides, it was already late and his mind was not as alert as during the day. He was about to reveal something, which could have been a big mistake.
"You think everything you say is right? Stop talking nonsense. Be careful when you walk at night. You might get such a fright that you drop dead," Derek threatened maliciously and got into his car to drive away.
Nicole knocked on the car window, intending to ask him more questions, when suddenly he started the car and sped off.
Nicole didn't bother chasing him. Although it was late, she was in a residential area and wasn't afraid of him. However, chasing him might provoke a desperate reaction.
His first thought was to call Rhett, but it was too late. So he sent a message to Rhett to update him on the situation.
Surprisingly, Rhett was still awake and replied, “I will investigate this man.”
Nicole returned to her car. His next plan of action was to stake out Leighton's house and use that as a starting point. What she knew wasn't enough to prove that something was wrong with Jarrod's forensic results. She needed some solid evidence, like a confession.
Nicole knew it would be difficult, though. Jarrod's men were always cautious. They probably bribed and threatened people to ensure their loyalty. It was hard to get someone to confess the truth when they had been bought.
So Nicole thought it wiser to gather more evidence. The private meetings between Derek and Leighton were suspicious in and of themselves. If she could rely on this evidence, even if she didn't have enough to turn the tables entirely, she could get media attention and put pressure on the agency to re-examine Jarrod.
With this in mind, Nicole started the car and had just turned the corner when she saw a car heading towards her.
The car's high beams blinded Nicole, who squinted to see beyond the glare. Within a second, the car was in front of her, speeding.
Nicole's alarm bells went off. The car seemed to be coming for her.
In a split second, Nicole yanked the steering wheel hard, tilting the car to one side and narrowly avoiding a collision.
Finally he could see clearly. It was a silver sedan. In fact, it was the same one Derek had run out of earlier in, panicked.
Now he had returned to the place.
A horrible thought crossed Nicole's mind. She quickly shifted into gear to get away, but because the car was in such a bad shape, it stopped just a few inches away.
His car was left alone in the middle of the night on a lonely street.
Nicole heard the screech of Derek's car as he accelerated, and a blinding beam of white light illuminated the darkness behind them.
Nicole looked in the rearview mirror, only to be blinded by the bright light.
It was obvious that since Derek hadn't managed to hit her with his speeding car, he had turned around to finish the job.
The roar of the engine and the glare of the light made it clear that Derek was determined to crash into Nicole's car and completely destroy it.
Nicole didn't understand why Derek, who had just fled in a cold sweat, would suddenly take such a drastic and dangerous step. Where had I gotten the courage?
Nicole had no time to think about these questions. She frantically shifted gears again, pressing the accelerator to the floor.
