Chapter 1239:

? ? ? ? ?

His accusations were unfounded.

Nicole, unable to tolerate the slander any longer, raised her hand to hit Doreen.

But suddenly, a firm, cold hand grabbed her wrist tightly, causing her face to pale.

Seeing this, Doreen's demeanor changed dramatically and she clung to the man who had intervened, gesturing. "My dear, I'm relieved you're here. I was afraid this irrational woman was going to attack me..."

Doreen's smarmy tone contrasted sharply with her earlier vitriol, causing Nicole to frown.

Then, a familiar but cold voice ranged out. “Miss, what prompted you to raise your hand to my girlfriend?”

Nicole looked up, squinting against the harsh overhead light. Adjusting her vision, she made out a sharp jaw and a familiar, handsome face. It was Roscoe.

Nicole's eyes shot open and her heart began to beat rapidly.

Had he come back? When had he come back? I had no idea.

Nicole had been immersed in the lawsuit lately, secluding herself at home to avoid accidental encounters with Jarrod. She occasionally checked the business news and visited her mother at the sanatorium when Jarrod was busy with work. Unfortunately, her mother no longer recognized her, only Jarrod.

Now, as Nicole stared at Roscoe, mixed feelings washed over her.

Joy mixed with a hint of pain from past struggles. Roscoe had always been affectionate towards her, which made the feeling of pain almost instinctive and her eyes filled with tears that refused to fall.

“Roscoe, is your hand better now?” Nicole asked, her voice tinged with genuine concern.

Nicole barely noticed Doreen standing beside her, focused solely on Roscoe's well-being. Her fresh grip suggested that his hand had healed. His posture, steady and firm, indicated that his leg had probably healed as well. This observation brought a sigh of relief to her.

Yet, strangely, Roscoe's gaze toward Nicole was cold and distant, his expression inscrutable, offering no emotional comfort.

Before Nicole could utter another word, Doreen hit her in the face with a hard slap.

“You wretch! It was bad enough that you cheated on my uncle, but now you dare try to seduce my man in front of me? Are you so shameless that you pursue every man you see?” Doreen's voice dripped with disdain for Nicole.

For Doreen, Nicole had had a complicated connection with Jarrod in the past, and now, boldly, Nicole seemed to compete for her partner's attention. How gallant!

The slap brought Nicole back to reality. She belatedly realized a disturbing truth. Roscoe's gaze was vacant, so if he no longer recognized her. Her heart sank. Perhaps the Watts family had tampered with Roscoe's memory during his recovery.

Nicole's inner turmoil was interrupted when Doreen clung to Roscoe, urging him, "Roscoe, let's leave this crazy woman. She's nothing but a wanton woman, incapable of going a day without attracting a man."

Roscoe looked at Nicole, noticing the tears brimming in her eyes, which aroused an inexplicable unease in him, although his memories of her remained elusive.

Doreen tugged on Roscoe's arm, urging him to get into the car.

Roscoe followed without further comment, heading towards the vehicle.

Impulsively, Nicole reached out and grabbed Roscoe's arm, her face streaming with tears. "Roscoe, it's me, Nicole. Have you forgotten me?"
