Chapter 1236:

Along the way, he tried to call Roscoe, but his calls went unanswered, with the automated voice telling him that the number he had dialed did not exist.
This same means of contacting him had been cut off. Nicole's anxiety increased.
Upon arrival, Nicole flung open the hospital room door and yelled, “Roscoe?”
The man on the bed turned to look at Nicole, but it wasn't Roscoe. The man looked at her curiously and asked, "Who are you?"
Nicole felt a pang of disappointment. She replied quietly, “I'm sorry. “I must have gotten into the wrong room.”
Before leaving, he paused to ask, “Excuse me, do you know when the last patient in this room was discharged?”
The man shook his head. “I have no idea. “I just got here this morning.”
“Sorry for the inconvenience,” Nicole said, leaving the room disheartened. She concluded that Roscoe's family must have flown him overseas for treatment.
Back home, he dug deeper into Watts family affairs and confirmed what Jarrod had said. Roscoe was now the sole heir to the Watts legacy.
Despite his illegitimacy, Roscoe was the bearer of the Watts bloodline and the legitimate heir to the family's wealth. Without Roscoe, the Watts family legacy would be dispersed among distant relatives.
Miguel, always calculating, would surely understand this. So he evaluated Roscoe and made sure that no harm came to him.
Although Nicole knew Roscoe had been flown overseas for medical care, she couldn't pursue him now. She was locked in a custody battle with Jarrod over Austin. Plus, she didn't want to disrupt Roscoe's treatment.
She understood Roscoe's dedication to his medical career, knowing that even though he was no longer practicing, no one wanted a diminished quality of life. As he aged, his mobility problems were likely to increase.
Nicole had initially planned to be with Roscoe during his treatment after Austin's custody was settled. However, it seemed like this turn of events was a relief. She didn't know how long it could take to sort out Austin's situation.
Roscoe's condition was worsening, his hands were becoming more clumsy every day, and he could not afford to wait.
Nicole was confident that if she kept pushing, Roscoe would eventually come back to her. She was sure that unlike others, Roscoe would never abandon her. He was like Austin, the nanny, and Raegan. They were never the ones who abandoned her.
Three days later, the test results came back. The tests confirmed that the medication was for mental health treatment.
Excited by the discovery, Nicole immediately contacted a lawyer, gave him all the details, and completely entrusted him with the custody case.
During those three days, Nicole had not contacted Jarrod nor saw Austin. Although not seeing Austin broke her heart, knowing that the nanny was there with Austin comforted her a little. Now, it was time for a decisive battle. To win custody of Austin, she needed to be strong.
A week later, Nicole assumed Jarrod had received notice. But unexpectedly, the lawyer she had hired returned her deposit and withdrew from the case.
The lawyer Nicole had hired was considered the best choice in Ardlens for custody battles, despite the high fees, because of his proven effectiveness.
To his surprise, even this highly regarded lawyer withdrew.
Nicole tried to confront the lawyer, but he avoided her. Deep down, she suspected that she had been intimidated.
She then turned to other law firms, but it seemed like they had all been warned. They all rejected her case as soon as they found out it was Jarrod.
