Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 1218
Chapter 1218:
? ? ? ? ?
A sleek black car was speeding along the paved road.
Nicole stared blankly out the window, her eyes reflecting the cold winter night and her own sense of desolation.
From the moment she got into the car, she knew things had reached a point of no return. She felt paralyzed, unable to process anything until she saw her mother. Her thoughts were chaos, her mind a chaotic whirlwind that felt full and empty at the same time.
Nicole felt like she was losing herself, like she was suffering from schizophrenia. She had so many thoughts, but none of them seemed to be hers.
It wasn't until she arrived at the sanatorium that she realized how close she had always been to her mother.
Nicole approached step by step, stopping before reaching the room. What awaited her on the other side was unimaginable and she did not dare to face it. The mother she had long thought dead was still alive.
Nicole froze, afraid that this was a cruel dream and that she would find nothing behind that door. She feared that the hope she had clung to would be shattered once again.
Nicole felt numb as Jarrod took her hand and guided her forward.
That changed when the door opened.
Dora was sitting on the hospital bed, calmly watching television, unfazed by her arrival.
“Mom…” Nicole burst into tears and ran to hug Dora.
“Mom… Mom…” Nicole cried, hugging Dora tightly, but Dora seemed as inert as a mannequin, not even flinching.
Nicole slowly realized that something was seriously wrong. She shook her mother's shoulders and her voice rose urgently. "Mom, what's wrong?"
Do you recognize me? I'm Nicole, your Nicole…
Finally, Dora stirred, but only a little, mumbling incoherently and drooling from the corners of her mouth.
Shaking, Nicole looked at Jarrod through her tears, asking, “What happened to my mother?”
Nicole had always shown herself to be strong, especially with Jarrod, like an unbreakable warrior.
This type of vulnerability was rare.
Jarrod felt a painful tightness in his chest and was tempted to reach out and hug her. Instead, he said quietly, “The fact that she woke up at all is a miracle at all…”
That simple statement said it all. Dora had regained consciousness after being declared brain dead, so it was unreasonable to expect her to function as before.
In the years before, Dora was confined to bed, blinking only occasionally, unable to move any other part of her body.
Over time, Jarrod found top-notch doctors and got Dora into the best facility. With continued treatment, she was able to move her hands and feet and even sit up.
Watching television was part of Dora's rehabilitation, intended to stimulate her brain, but it didn't seem to help much. Dora still didn't respond.
Nicole looked at her mother's familiar face and long-suppressed memories flooded her mind. The kitchen glowed warmly, steam rising from the pot, her mother cooking while her father set the table.
When Nicole got home, their faces lit up with joy.
