Chapter 1211:
? ? ? ? ?
Perhaps because she was back under Jarrod's control, the anxiety inside her grew. She felt as if a long-hidden secret was about to be revealed.
He looked at the door. Four bodyguards were outside and two nurses were changing shifts inside.
Next to the bed, a thermos contained honey water that a nurse had prepared for him earlier. After taking a sip, an idea began to form in his mind.
For the next few days, Jarrod was busy and did not visit her for three days straight.
During this time, Nicole became attached to a particularly compassionate nurse named Leila Hunt.
Leila was affectionate and sociable.
Nicole became close to Leila, and although Leila was affectionate, she was cautious, never meddling in personal matters and always speaking tactfully.
Noticing that Nicole had a good appetite today, Leila carefully peeled and cut the fruits, placing them neatly on a plate before offering them to Nicole.
“Miss Lawrence, please try these. Alec brought them this morning. I've never seen them before. “I have mentioned that they are imported and very good for your health.”
Nicole ate half of them but couldn't finish them all. "You can eat the rest, Leila."
Leila hesitated, feeling unworthy of eating such a luxury. These were delicacies she had never seen before. How could she consume them so carelessly?
Only after Nicole insisted a few times, mentioning that they would spoil if not eaten, did Leila relent and try them.
The fruits had a rich, creamy texture, like ice cream, and Leila found them incredibly tasty, although she wasn't sure what they tasted like.
She wanted to take them to her son. She felt a little guilty knowing that her son had never tasted such delicious fruits while she was enjoying them.
Noticing Leila's expression, Nicole encouraged her, "Leila, why don't you take some home for your son to try?"
Leila quickly refused. “Oh no, I couldn't. I've already tried them. I can't take them home. Mr. Schultz ordered them especially for you, so you can regain your strength.”
Leila's husband worked as a chauffeur, and together they used their earnings to pay for their son's education and buy a small apartment of about 60 square meters, for which they had taken out a loan. It was not extravagant, but at least they had a place to call home.
But the burden of the loan was putting pressure on Leila, forcing her to be extremely thrifty, not allowing herself a moment's rest.
Her son ate mostly apples, bananas and pears because Leila was hesitant to buy unfamiliar fruits in the store. The ones they already had were affordable and nutritious.
Deep in her heart, Leila wished that her husband and son could taste such delicious fruits because they might never again in their lives have the chance to taste anything so special, apart from what their bosses had given them.
However, Leila stood firm on her principles. She never took things from her employers' houses without a genuine reason, nor did she blindly accept their casual kindness.
She had witnessed many employers offer her jobs, but then gossiped about her, calling her a country bumpkin and lacking in sophistication.
Although Leila's family was far from rich, she held her head high and respected herself. Ordinary food could satisfy her hunger.
They refused to compromise their principles for a simple meal.
“Leila, I really respect you,” Nicole reassured her. “If you don't pick up the fruit, they'll throw it away, and that would be a waste.”
Over the past few days, Leila had realized that Nicole was not like her previous bosses. Nicole was compassionate and treated the staff with kindness.
Seeing the desire in Leila's eyes, Nicole added, "You know I don't have much of an appetite and I can't eat a lot of fruit every day. It's a shame to throw all this away every day. If you don't Don't mind, please take some for your family to enjoy."
