Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1498: The Denial
"Mr. Blythe, Mr. Marcos from the Leoz Group is here."
Hearing the secretary's report, Blythe and Winston were surprised.
Neither had expected Marcos to come to JR.
"He'll come suddenly, he must be up to something. Keep an eye out."
With those words, Winston entered the living room and closed the door behind him.
He made his way to the only couch in the living room and sat down, grabbing a laptop that rested on his lap before turning on the surveillance of Blythe's office. Although he and Marcos didn't know each other, Marcos had had him investigated earlier in connection with Earlene's arrest and knew him somewhat.
If Marcos saw him and Blythe together, he would undoubtedly be suspicious of Blythe's identity.
Therefore, it was safer for him to avoid him.
Blythe glanced at the monitor in the corner, knowing Winston must be in the lounge watching the surveillance.
He took a deep breath before asking his secretary to send someone in.
"Mr. Marcos, what brings you here?"
Blythe greeted Marcos with a smile as soon as he entered.
Marcos looked around and noticed nothing out of place.
"I'd like to ask Sister Blythe for advice." Marcos' tone was cold and distant.
"Oh?" Blythe looked intrigued, "What could I possibly have that would warrant Mr. Marcos asking me for advice?"
Marcos grimaced and didn't answer.
Blythe raised an eyebrow and made a "please" gesture, "Mr. Marcos, sit down here first. You've come at a good time and I'm free, so we can talk." He then indicated to his secretary, "Bring two cups of coffee."
"Yes." The secretary turned and walked out.
Marcos and Blythe were left alone in the spacious office.
Once Marcos sat down, Blythe sat across from him, her face still full of smiles, "Mr. Marcos, I'm very surprised you came to see me at JR."
Marcos raised his eyes, his cold gaze settling on her unrealistically beautiful face as he placed a bottle of perfume on the table.
At the sight of the perfume bottle, Blythe's smile froze for an instant, her delicately drawn fine eyebrows furrowed as she looked up at him with a questioning look, "Mr. Marcos, what do you mean by that?" The perfume was the bottle he had given Paulina.
He had brought it, he hadn't found any, had he?
Blythe panicked, but kept her composure and showed not a hint of it.
Mark's thin lips parted and his voice was like hardened ice, "I was going to ask Sister Blythe what she meant."
Indeed, he had found out.
Blythe's heart stilled and her lips lifted into a smile, "I really don't know what Mr. Marcos means. Why don't you say it plainly, Mr. Marcos."
Since she was saying it, there was no need for him to be pedantic.
"The perfume carries a drug that is not produced in the market."
As she said this, Marcos' voice went out with a chill, and his gaze at Blythe grew colder and colder.
"A drug?" Blythe's eyes widened in astonishment, "You, did you make a mistake? This is a perfume I bought overseas, how could it be laced with drugs?"
Mark stared at her with a deadly look, "You didn't know?".
Her expression was exactly as if she had just found out.
"How was I supposed to know?" Blythe smiled helplessly, "I've kept this perfume untouched since I bought it. If you hadn't said it was laced with drugs, I'm afraid I wouldn't have known."
It didn't look like she was lying, and she wondered if she was too good at hiding it, or if she really didn't know.
Marcos didn't quite believe her.
"You really don't know?" he repeated the question.
Blythe looked puzzled and held up her hand in a cursing gesture, "I really don't know."
Mark knew very well that even if he did know, he would deny it.
There was no point in beating around the bush.
"Tell me about the man you asked to help you buy it." said Marcos.
Blythe hesitated slightly, "Tell you?"
"Since you don't know, then maybe he does."
"He... he's just one of my employees. He was on a business trip and, by the way, I asked him to bring it to me, so how was he supposed to know the perfume was laced with drugs?" Blythe smiled unnaturally, as if she feared Marcos knew who the other man was.
Marcos took it in and was immediately sure she had something to do with it.
"Do you know, or do you have to ask in person?" said Marcos without moving.
Blythe laughed dryly, "You're right. But you've come at a bad time, he's still overseas and hasn't returned."
In reality, there was no such person.
Blythe didn't know who to call to pretend for a while, so she had to come up with a random excuse to procrastinate, hoping Marcos would give up.
"Such a coincidence?" Marcos raised an eyebrow, "Looks like I've come at a bad time."
His tone was significant.
Blythe was starting to panic, but she kept her composure, "Yeah, I'll be sure to ask him when he gets back."
It didn't sound like he was going to ask anything today.
Mark stood up and said lightly, "Then I'll bother Sister Blythe."
"It's no bother, it's what I have to do.
As long as she could put it off today, she could find someone to fake it when the time came.
Mark looked at her, not making a sound.
His dark eyes were as deep as a pool, as if he could see into her heart.
Blythe swallowed spit and laughed, "We've been talking for so long and I still haven't figured out if there's anything wrong with the drugs in the perfume." She tried to look completely unprepared.
"It's the drug that will make my wife sick." Marcos replied coolly.
"Huh?" Blythe was taken aback, "But I wear this perfume all the time, how come I'm okay?"
Not wanting to say more, Marcos nodded slightly, "I'll leave you to it. If Sr. Blythe finds anything, let me know."
"Sure thing.
After Blythe escorted the man out, she watched as he entered the elevator and, once the door closed, she quickly returned to her office and breathed a long sigh of relief.
Under Marcos' powerful aura, he felt as if he had nothing to hide, as if everything in his mind had been read.
Hopefully, he had discovered nothing today.
Winston came out of the room and saw that she didn't look so good and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
Blythe turned her head to look at him, "Weren't you there watching the monitors, don't you know what's wrong with me?".
Winston was silent for a few seconds before speaking, "If you're afraid that Mark will find out that the drugs in the perfume were added by you specifically, then there's nothing to worry about." "How can I not worry?" Blythe frowned, "When it is discovered, my identity will be suspected. When that happens, they'll know I'm Earlene."
When that happened, she would find it difficult to retaliate.
"As long as you deny it, they won't be able to do anything even if they suspect you." said Winston.
Blythe laughed coldly at that, "You think Mark is too easy, too stupid. Just by the way he looked a moment ago, I think he already suspects me."
