Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1399: Really think of yourself as an onion.

Mrs. Gloria certainly hadn't forgotten about her and Agustina's kidnapping and was still a little distressed every time she thought about it. She sighed heavily, "It's all retribution and really doesn't deserve any sympathy."

Alvaro laughed, "That's more like it, Mom."

"We can finally live in peace after this." Mrs. Gloria smiled at Paulina.

Paulina smiled back and said nothing.

The days calmed down, Mark continued to leave early and come home late, and Paulina stayed home to read and spend time with the children.

And since Earlene's funeral, the Bartram family remained silent, with no news.

Just a week later, the Bartram Group suddenly announced that it would develop artificial intelligence software in conjunction with The Chavez Family, The Villegas Family and The Camero Family, with an investment of more than a billion dollars. The whole business world was surprised.

The Leoz Group had just acquired a while ago an AI development project that, if successfully developed, could definitely take the country's technology to the next level.

Right now, the Bartram Group suddenly wants to develop artificial intelligence as well, and many people can see the implications.

It is clear that the Bartram Group wants to compete with the Leoz Group for a piece of the artificial intelligence pie.

Many people are curious which of the two will succeed in the end.

...

Leoz Group, Office of the President.

"Brother, it's clear that Rawlins is doing this on purpose!" Alvaro was furious as he unbuttoned his suit.

He had lost all the joy he had felt when he had won the AI project, but instead he was stuck.

The Bartram Group had come for the Leoz Group.

The corners of Alvaro's mouth curved into a sneer at the thought, "Rawlins really thinks he's an onion."

"Is there any need to be so angry?" Marcos raised his eyes, his cold gaze settling on him, his handsome face unperturbed.

"Brother, why are you still so calm? People are so close to opening their mouths and declaring war on us."

"Don't you have confidence in the company or in me?" asked Marcos instead of answering.

Alvaro bristled, "I don't distrust the company, or you."

"Then there's no need to get angry."

Marcos withdrew his eyes, lowered his head to the paper in his hand and continued, "We are not doing this project to compete with anyone, the ultimate goal is to improve our country's technology." Alvaro thought he had misheard, "Brother, what are you saying, why don't I understand?"

Marcos looked at him and the corners of his lips curved up, "Do you think we will lose?"

"Of course not." Alvaro answered quickly and then he sensed something was wrong. "Didn't you just say it wasn't a competition, why are you asking if I'm going to lose again?"

"Because there is no competition, the Leoz Group only competes with itself, the present has to be better than the past and the future has to be better than the present." Marcos' words took the anger out of Alvaro's heart and he let out a laugh, "Brother, I love how confident you are."

"This artificial intelligence project research, we don't just have to be fast, we have to be smart, you know how to do that, right?" asked Marcos.

Alvaro lifted his chin and said quite confidently, "Of course."

...

That day Paulina received a call from her brother-in-law Dulce.

"Paulina, Edgar and Edwina are getting engaged this Saturday, so tell your in-laws and family to come and have a good time."

"Engagement?" Paulina was surprised, "Is it already decided?".

"Well, your cousin said the only way to be sure is to get engaged."

At this point, Dulce sighed softly, "It's all my fault as a mother for stopping them in the first place, that's why he's so insecure."

She could hear herself blaming herself and Paulina comforted her, "Tia, the past is the past, the present and the future are the most important thing."

"Yes, so I will definitely treat Edwina well in the future."

"I'll talk to Marcos and we'll be there to wish cousin and Edwina well when the time comes."

"Make sure you come, you know?"

"Of course."

The two talked about something else before hanging up the phone.

Paulina gripped the phone tightly, with a slight uncertainty in her mind; would Marcos agree to let her go to Kyoto now that he wouldn't even let her go to the office?

...

Kyoto.

Edwina looked at herself in the mirror, her originally smooth face with delicate makeup, a properly cut dress showing off her good figure, the pink color highlighting her increasingly fair skin. She had never looked like this before and it was inexplicably a little strange.

In a few days she would be engaged to Edgar.

Thinking back on the time they had spent together since they had met, it hadn't been long, but it had been overwhelming.

She had gone back to Edgar with the intention of spending a day with him, never thinking that one day they would become engaged.

To be more precise, she dreaded the thought of it.

He was the prince of the world, and she was an ordinary person.

She was the one who had risen above him, so from the time he proposed until now, she had always had a surreal feeling, as if she was dreaming.

Thinking about this, he reached up and pinched his cheek.

It ached.

"Pfft-"

She burst out laughing, how could she be so silly?

Edgar pushed open the door and his eyes softened as he saw the woman standing in front of the mirror.

"Edwina."

At the sound of the voice, Edwina turned around.

In the light, she was smiling and bright as a flower.

Edgar felt something hit his heart hard, his eyes fixed on her face as he took a step closer to her.

Her eyes were so deep and bottomless it was as if he would be sucked in if he wasn't careful.

All was silent, so silent that the sound of a heartbeat was clearly audible.

Beat, beat, beat.

One after another.

Edwina felt her heart leap out of her chest, and the hands that fell to her side clenched in silence.

"You're beautiful." Edgar leaned close to her and whispered.

Edwina's little face warmed and she lowered her head shyly.

"Edwina, I'm happy."

The deep voice that belonged to him rang in her ears and Edwina pursed her lips and said, "I'm happy too."

Edgar raised his hand to lift her chin.

The four eyes met.

Edgar hooked the corners of his lips, "I really want to marry you right away, not just get engaged."

Edwina took his hand between hers, "You've just started your career, there's no need to rush into marriage. What's more, I don't want to be Mrs. Fang so soon." Edgar raised an eyebrow, "Why?".

"Well ..." Edwina thought seriously for a moment, "I will definitely try to become good so that I can be worthy of you."

"In my eyes, you're already great." Edgar took her hand and gently kissed the back of it.

"That's not good enough." Edwina shook her head gently. "I want everyone to know you were right to choose me as your wife."

Edgar laughed helplessly, "Edwina, this is between the two of us, we don't have to care what anyone else thinks."

"I don't care, but I don't want people talking behind my back either."

Edgar knew she was hurt by the earlier furor over the marriage between the two families, The Terrazas family and The Boone family, and she was a little upset. He held her hand tightly and looked at her tenderly, "I'll help you."

Edwina smiled brightly, "Good."

Edgar lowered his head and kissed her red lips.
