Losing to My Substitute (Katerina and Joshu) -
Substitute 96
Chapter
26
Outside the ICU, Jean stared blankly at the inside, unresponsive to the doctor asking her to undergo a full examination.
Duke tried for a long time to get her to tend to her wounds, but she refused, so he had to do it himself.
Exhausted, Jean leaned against Duke, repeatedly praying for Berton's safety.
Duke comforted her, "He will be fine. He will be fine..."
Finally, the doctor emerged, announcing the results of the treatment.
Berton had survived but was left with a lifelong disability.
When Jean entered, Berton was still unconscious, tubes inserted all over his body.
As she tucked him in, Jean noticed the scars on Berton's wrist-ones she had never seen before.
She realized that her departure might have caused Berton a lot of pain.
Jean spoke softly, "Berton, you don't need to make amends. Just get better."
"I forgive you for everything you've done, the good and the bad..."
After the accident, Duke stayed close to Jean, afraid she might get hurt again.
Berton had become this way trying to save Jean, and during his hospital stay, she set aside her work to care for him.
Duke silently supported her.
After Winni was imprisoned, her father came to plead with Jean before the trial, seeking an
out-of-court settlement, even offering his shares in the company, but Jean refused.
She wasn't a saint and didn't have the grace to forgive someone who wanted her life.
Before the trial, Winni demanded to see Berton but was met with rejection.
She only received news from Jean about Berton's paralysis.
In prison, Winni's eyes were bloodshot as she glared at Jean, her emotions boiling over, banging on Losing to My Substitute

ste glass, warning from guards falling on deaf ears.
r's all your fault! If it weren't for you, Berton wouldn't be paralyzed jean, you deserve to dien
"Winni, you're still delusional. Have you not reflected at all during your time in prison?"
Winni laughed maniacally, "Jean, I just regret not finishing you off that day."
Seeing Winni's obsession, Jean felt no pity left and decided to appeal
On the day of the trial, Jean sat in the plaintiff's seat, while Winni refused to plead guilty.
During the proceedings, Winni calmly recited the defense prepared by her lawyer, but with complete evidence, it only increased her sentence.
It wasn't until the witness was announced that her attitude began to shift.
"The witness is Berton Snow."
"I am the witness Berton Snow. Everything I say is true. On March 14th, Winni Byron deliberately kidnapped Jean Collins and inflicted harm..." Winni's expression shattered as she looked at Berton on the witness stand.
It was a heart-wrenching betrayal; anyone could testify, but the witness was Berton.
Winni broke down, "Berton, do you really care so little for our past?"
Once lovers, willing to sacrifice for each other, now facing each other in court.
"Past? Winni, I warned you to stop clinging to the past. You could have had a bright future."
Winni shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "Berton, I just want to ask one thing: Did you
ever love me?"
Berton looked at Winni, now in prison garb, eyes bloodshot and disheveled, "After you left, I realized there was nothing worth holding onto in this world..."
