Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 83
Maya
Hours had passed, and after kindergarten, Nate had gone to pick up Axel from my parents. Although I really didn’t want him anywhere near Brad, I couldn’t leave him at my mom’s all day. So now we were still sitting in the waiting room. Axel was in my lap, playing with his soldiers, while Nate had his arm around my shoulder and looked at Axel carefully.
“It’s been 13 hours,” Nate said, frowning.
“You don’t give birth in ten minutes, love,” I answered, laughing.
Lucas and Devon in front of us were staring at us carefully, they were doing it from the moment I went to the bathroom to vomit, trying to draw as little attention as possible, but now I seemed under inquisition with Lucas’ eyes pointed at me.
And I kept looking the other way, and I kept focusing my attention on Axel. Suddenly my stomach growled, so much so that it caught Nate’s mother’s attention.
I tried to hide from shame. God, I would eat four sandwiches by myself. Nate sighed and got up.
“Let’s get something to eat,” he said, extending his hand.
I pulled myself up, and Axel leaned over to go into the arms of his father, who immediately took him.
“We’re going to eat something,” Nate announced as my stomach grumbled again.
I took his hand and pulled it with the intent of going to the hospital bar.
“Calm down, mon amour,” he said, laughing.
We walked into the bar, and I immediately got a chicken sandwich with a dessert. Axel and I sat down while Nate got the food, I pulled Axel’s lunch out of my bag, and I started feeding him while I watched Nate line up at the register.
Axel ate cheerfully as he continued to play with his toys when a shadow covered us. I looked up just to be in front of Brad. Staring at Axel while he ignored him completely.
“Maya,” he said, looking over at me.
I sighed, “What do you want?” I asked, continuing to feed Axel.
“To Talk,” he said.
“Can’t you see it’s not the time?” I snapped sourly.
“When would be, Maya? Because you ignore my calls and my messages. Don’t make me do something we’ll regret later,” he said.
I looked up and bent my head to the side, my eyes as cold as my heart to him. “Ah yes? Try it,” I said, “If I don’t answer if I ignore you, does that mean I don’t want to talk to you? I want nothing to do with you, not now, not ever again.”
“You can’t f*****g ignore me; we have a kid together!”
“Did we? You weren’t there, Brad,” I said, “You left. You left me. You told me to cut him off, and now, after two years, you show up like nothing’s happened, claiming what exactly? Huh? Something you never wanted, and that’s not yours. Axel may have your f*****g b***d, but he’s not your son, Brad. You didn’t want him, you abandoned him, and now you’re leaving and leaving us forever,” I said.
“I was wrong, but if only you understood, if you knew, you would give me a chance. You can’t deny me that; it’s my right.”
“You lost all rights when you kicked me out, humiliated me, and left me. You have nothing; you are nothing to me or him,” I said again with my teeth clenched pointing my fists at the table.
“I have a right. Before any judge I would have the right, not to let me get to such a means”
“Try it, Brad, I dare you,” I said with clenched teeth.
“Daddy!” Axel yelled and I feel him behind my back.
Nate put the tray of food in front of me, and then he put his hand on my shoulder, feeling my nervousness.
“Is there a problem?” he said calmly, too calmly, almost icily.
“None of your business,” Brad replied with his fist clenched against the table.
“Since Maya is my wife and you’re clearly bothering her, I think it’s really MY business,” Nate always replied icily.
Brad looked at him, the fire was burning in his blue irises, while Nate remained calm.
“He’s my son, he’s my business,” Brad said with clenched teeth.
“Yours?” I said, “Where were you during the nine months of pregnancy? Where were you during childbirth? When I have to wake up every hour at night to make him eat? When he said his first words when he put his first teeth in and had a fever, when he took his first steps, where were you? You were not with me, you were not with him. He was never your son and never will be,” I said, leaning my back to the chair.
Nate sat down next to me and put his arm on my back and looked at him.
“You make me, Maya,” Brad said before he left.
I sighed as Axel looked with his eyes shining on Nate. No matter the b***d, Nate was Axel’s father and no one else.
Nate put the plate in front of me with my sandwich and my slice of cake and, to the sight, my stomach grumbled loudly he looked at me raising a raised eyebrow and I immediately grabbed the sandwich, starting to eat voraciously, as if I hadn’t eaten for days.
Nate got up and stood on the other side of Axel, feeding him again as I g*****d as I ate, devouring the sandwich completely in no time. When I put the last piece in my mouth, I leaned back with a sigh and watched Nate look at me cheerfully.
“Can you eat dessert?” he asked, seeing me caressing my full belly.
I looked at him frowning and approached the plate with the dessert, slipping in the fork immediately and beginning to eat, moaning gladly.
Nate laughed and let me do it while Axel leaned towards me, claiming a piece of cake. I took a fork and handed it to him, while he happily ate the cake.

We went back to the waiting room while I was holding a closed bag of chips, a snack I was going to keep for later. Nate had gone to the bathroom to change Axel. I sat down with a sigh and took my cell phone when I was surrounded.
Lucas and Devon sat next to me, one on one side and one on the other. I looked away from my phone and looked at them.
“Are you hiding something, May?” Lucas asked me.
“Why should I hide something?” I countered.
“You’re so radiant and happy, Nate doesn’t come off next to you, what’s going on?” Devon said instead.
“Nate is always attached to me,” I said, shrugging.
“More than usual,” they said in chorus.
“Nah,” I said, “It’s your impression.”
“You don’t fool me,” Lucas insisted.
Fortunately, the moment was interrupted by Andrew entering the waiting room. We all got up.
Andrew had red eyes and a smiley face.
“They are born!” he said as if he were in the clouds.
