Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 125

I looked in the direction of that thud and I was stuck staring at the scene in front of my eyes.
It took me three seconds to realize the situation then I moved, running towards the figure on the ground. Devon must have seen me because he immediately got out of the car and followed me.
I knelt next to the girl who g*****d in pain holding a hand on her swollen abdomen while under her a pool of b***d had formed.
“What’s going on?” Devon asked, leaning over to the other side of the girl.
“I don’t know, I heard a noise and then I saw her,” I said looking at him, “Hey baby,” I said, “How can we help you?” I asked, trying to stay calm.
The girl must not have been more than sixteen, she was petite, with red hair that fell on her back and blue eyes like those of a lake that had some shades of green here and there.
The girl looked at me completely terrified, tears running down her cheeks covered with freckles as her lower l*p trembled.
“My children,” she said, trembling.
I looked at her hands resting on her swollen and taut tummy, “Devon, we have to take her to the hospital,” I said, not looking away from the girl.
Devon moved and very gently picked her up, placing one arm under her knees and one behind her, lifting her off the ground like a bride and moving towards the car. I passed him and ran to open the back door so that he could position her. He made her lie down in the seat.
“You sit with her, I’ll drive,” Devon told me, and I did as he told me.
In a short time, he set off and drove at full speed to the hospital while I tried to calm the girl who was crying with fear.
“Don’t worry, breathe deeply, we’ll be in the hospital soon. What’s your name?”
“Madison,” she replied as she imitated me in her breathing.
“How old are you?” I asked her gently.
“I just made 16,” she replied.
“Okay, Madison, can we call your parents?”
Madison bit her lower l*p and shook her head with tears in her eyes, “No, my parents kicked me out of the house when I told them I was pregnant, I’m at Grandma’s, but I can’t call Grandma because she can’t shake herself,” she said with her fragile voice.
“Okay no parents,” I said, caressing her thighs and trying to reassure her, “How about your boyfriend?”
“Okay no parents,” I said, caressing her thighs and trying to reassure her, “How about your boyfriend?”
“I don’t have a boyfriend,” she replied, groaning and passing a hand under his nose to dry.
“Okay okay,” I said, panicking, “We’re going to take you to the hospital and we’re going to see there, okay?” I asked her, and she nodded.
“We’re almost there,” Devon said, and I looked up and saw his in the rearview mirror.
Devon was driving like crazy, honking the horn at anyone who got in the way, and we got to the hospital in no time. Devon parked right in front of the ER doors and ran out while I stayed in the car with little Madison.
I guided her in her breathing, as I had seen her do in hundreds of movies as she grabbed my shaking hand and squeezed it hard. Looking me in the eye.
After several minutes I saw Devon appear accompanied by some doctor and nurse, they opened the door behind me and I tried to get out but the girl shook my hand shaking her head.
“Don’t worry, just long enough to get you out of the car, okay?” I said, trying to reassure her.
Madison nodded and I got out of the car as the nurses moved to get her out of the car and into the wheelchair.
The doctors started storming us with questions that we couldn’t answer, we just talked about how we found her because it was the only thing we knew for sure as we went into the emergency room.
Madison was examined quickly and then taken immediately to the maternity ward.
They put her on a cot and started to take her away while she grabbed Devon and me.
“Please don’t leave me alone,” she cried.
Devon looked at me and I sighed, “We’re coming with you, okay?” I said gently, “As soon as they give you a room, you’ll find us there, okay?” I said stroking her head and she nodded slightly.
When she disappeared inside the elevators, the nurses looked at each other, “We’ll have to call the social workers,” said one of them.
Before they could disappear I blocked her “Can you wait until she’s better?” I asked.
“I’m sorry sir, but it’s standard procedure, we can’t do otherwise”
“Don’t call them. Madison told us she lives with her grandmother, you can call her, but please avoid social workers,” I said.
The nurse sighed and nodded and then turned around and went to the acceptance “Maternity is on the third floor” she told us without turning around in the slightest.
Devon and I immediately headed for the elevators, “Are you sure you want to stay there?”
“That girl has no Devon, no one, I know what it’s like to be alone and I don’t want to leave a 16-year-old girl to her fate like that,” I said looking at him.
Devon nodded satisfied and together we waited for the elevator doors to open. We stopped at the front desk and asked about the girl we just brought up and she pointed us to the room. As soon as we walked in, Madison looked up and stared at us, eyes full of tears as the nurses shoved her drips and wires everywhere.
I approached her side and stroked her head.
“The nurses must call someone else they will contact the social workers,” she said softly.
“No social workers,” she said, begging.
“We told her to call your grandmother,” Devon said.
The girl sighed and shook her head, “That was the only alternative, you know?” I said, and she nodded.
“But you will stay here with me?” he asked with tears in his eyes.
Devon and I looked at each other for a moment, surprised by that request.
