Let Me Love You Again
Chapter 110

Nate

Again I was in the conference room at lunchtime, while my colleagues had decided to abandon me for a couple of hours to take the lunch break. Slackers.

I heard a light knock at the door and looked up as it opened and Becka appeared with an envelope in her hand.

“Hey,” she said cheerfully, “I saw your colleagues going to lunch alone, and I figured you’d be left with nothing, so I thought I’d bring you something,” she quickly said.

“My colleagues are slackers,” I said, “Anyway, thank you, I’ll eat it later, tell me how much I owe you,” I continued, taking my wallet.

“I’ll keep you company!” she said.

I wanted to answer, but my phone started ringing, showing me Maya and Axel’s faces. Becka’s gaze landed on the screen as I picked it up and answered.

“Mon amour” I said cheerfully to hear her voice again.

“Axel has decided he doesn’t like your ties,” Maya said in a tired tone.

I laughed “Ah yes?”

“I think I’m going to have a nervous breakdown soon, Nate, I don’t know where he gets it from but certainly not from me,” Maya said exhausted.

“What did he do?” I asked as I closed the documents in front of me and moved them.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Becka take the containers out of the bags and place them on the table. I pulled away with the chair and listened to the wonderful voice of Maya. God, I missed her.

“He took all your ties from the walk-in closet and took them down to the kitchen, put them in the oven and accessed it, almost burned down my kitchen,” Maya whimpered.

“Don’t exaggerate,” I said laughing as I stood up and walked toward the window.

“Exaggerated? Nate, I have to pee every 20 minutes and I can’t distract myself for a second that Axel makes some mess!” she complained “I can’t have a hundred eyes. I swear the idea of tying him to the chair is becoming more and more tempting”.

I Sigh. I knew how unmanageable Axel could be when it took him, and now he was picking on my stuff, probably going to torture me when I got home.

Maya was tired and stressed, and it wasn’t good for her.

“Why don’t you call my mother for help? Mon amour, you’re tired, it’s not good for you, all this stress, it’s not good for the baby either,” I said in a concerned tone.

“I don’t understand why he’s doing this, he’s not standing still for a minute and he wants to destroy all your stuff,” sighed “Axel!” Suddenly she screamed and broke my eardrum.

I took the phone away from my ear and felt a shiver running through my body. I heard Maya mumbling something and Axel laughing and shouting in the background.

“Let him talk to me,” I said.

“Axel! Stop or you won’t talk to Dad!” I heard Maya screaming.

“No! Axel Dad!” I heard Axel shouting in the background.

“Hold on!” she said.

Several strange sounds were heard and then Axel’s angelic voice “Daddy!”.

I couldn’t stop the smile on my face as I heard his voice, even though I had to be serious.

“What are you doing?” I asked, clearing my throat.

“Nothing. Axel good,” he said angelically.

“Aren’t you driving Mom crazy?”

“Me? NO! Axel good and he prepares things so Dad always here,” he said as if he were an engineer.

I refrained from laughing, “Does that involve cooking my ties?” I asked.

“No ties, Dad no work,” he said seriously.

I heard Maya make a shocked sound and I had a laugh. My baby was so pissed off that we stayed away from each other that he wanted to get rid of everything he thought would take me away from him.

“Axel wants daddy,” this time with a cracked voice, “Mommy no good bath,” he complained.

“That, too? You came out of me, and I couldn’t bathe you?” Maya said, bewildered.

“No!” Axel cried, “Daddy better!” he said hysterically, in the exact same tone that Maya had when she got angry and hysterical.

“Daddy is not here!” Maya replied hysterically.

I laughed again as I listened to them arguing as if they were not calling me. It ended up with Axel crying because he didn’t agree with Maya.

I spent the next ten minutes calming him down while he rebelled. Eventually, I calmed him down so much that he fell asleep like a stone next to Maya who seemed relieved. I talked to Maya a little more, and then I hung up.

I texted my mom and asked her if she could keep Maya company since she couldn’t control Axel. My mother told me that Jess would go with the kids, it seemed that the only one to pass the crickets to Axel was little Emma, and I didn’t know whether to be happy or afraid of it.

I turned around and I saw Becka, I remembered that she was in the room, too, and I completely forgot she was there.

Becka looked at me.

“Sorry, to be honest, I completely forgot you were in the room,” I said, scratching my head.

“Don’t worry, I’ve seen you very busy dealing with the baby,” he said.

I frowned at the way she had referred to Axel.

“He starts accusing me of being far away,” I said sitting down.

I took the container of the rotisserie and began to eat without adding a word, I did not know why but I began to feel uncomfortable.

“Is he close to you?” Becka asked me again.

“Extremely and Maya is sometimes jealous of it,” I said, “His first word was Dada,” I continued proudly recalling the excitement of that day and the laughter I had had in seeing Maya exasperated.

Axel was so small.

“And you’re having another baby,” she said.

I nodded, “A little girl. Maya is entering the sixth month,” I said dreamily.

How I f*****g missed her tummy, feel my little girl even though she didn’t want to move. Lazy like her mother.

“Wow, you didn’t waste any time,” Becka commented.

“When you are with the person you love, time is something that disappears completely,” I answered.
