I'm Not Yours, Alpha -
I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 75
Madox looked again and again at the paper in his hand with the address of a remote place on the other side of the country. A coastal area that barely had a population of more than 1,000 people. What the hell was he doing taking a call from there?
Even as that question crossed his mind, his heart was beating frantically. He felt his chest and his instincts told him to go there, no matter how far away it was. He pulled out his cell phone to see on the screen a message from the woman he had just seen where she was cursing him about the day he was going to die for having rejected her and simply used her without giving anything in return. He was really not in the mood for s*x and even less so after having that address.
She dialed a number and waited for the alpha on the other end to answer.
-I’m going away for a few days.
There was silence on the other end.
-Are you sure? Dominic didn’t sound so sure.
-My friend, I’ve always been an alpha who has been guided by his instinct, but this is the first time my instinct is calling me somewhere else and not inside a woman’s legs. That’s a sign for me to change my outlook on life.
There was silence on the other end of the line.
-If that’s what I’m thinking, I hope you’re lucky.
Madox smiled painfully. He shouldn’t get too excited because he was sure the disappointment would tear him apart, but…he had nothing to lose. That place was calling him. That call was becoming more and more important and he didn’t know why.
-I’ll keep you posted,” Madox prepared to hang up when Dominic stopped him first.
-You’d better, I intend to propose to Aidan and have a wedding. You will be my best man. No one else can take that place, understood?
Madox snorted.
-From now on I obey you. I’m the best man if I feel like it, not because you ask me to be, but if I find out that you gave that place to someone else before I get back I’ll make sure to blow your a*s away, understood?
Both alphas laughed and then hung up. Madox stared at his cell phone screen with a grim expression. He was glad for Dominic and that he had settled down with an omega to put him in his place, but it reminded him that he had been a jerk who had passed up the chance to be happy too.
Julian.
The only one who had been by his side without asking him for anything, without questioning him despite his promiscuous life. And I’m sure the one who had loved him the most without looking at the wealth that surrounded him.
Madox stepped off his private jet after a five hour flight and he could swear he was exhausted. They had had to circle several times as the runway was small and had been busy most of the time. Outside the small airport a rental car was waiting for him where he stowed his luggage and went to the nearest hotel.
He planned to get some sleep for energy but he could hardly do it so by 5 am he was awake. So what was better than to start his search?
At the front desk he asked for directions and was told it was at the far end of the small village. It didn’t take him long to get to the convertible and start the drive. He could swear that his heart wanted to jump out of his chest and his hands were shaking as he drove.
The atmosphere of the place was pleasant. The gentle breeze with the smell of the nearby sea hit her face and ruffled her blonde hair that had lost its cut and fell in soft waves at the level of her neck. It was a good place for a vacation. The people in the village below seemed to have a fun routine of fishing and doing chores around the house. There wasn’t much to the place but the tranquility and happiness of family life.
Madox made up his mind that he would look for a house to buy in that area and at least once a year he would come for a vacation.
He parked the car near the address he had been given and brushed his hair back. He noticed that several of the people around him were looking at him intently. Despite having neglected himself in recent times, there was no doubt that he was still a beautiful alpha at the top of the society chain. His body had lost a few pounds but his muscles were nowhere near gone. And in just a pair of jeans and a white shirt that gave him a relaxed look he was quite a sight to behold.
At other times he would have flirted with any of the women there but not that day, not that moment. He was no longer the same Madox he had been months ago. He had set out to be a better person, a better version of himself.
He walked over and entered a small coffee shop. The murmurs started as soon as he made his presence known. There were no pheromones anywhere so he deduced that all the people were simple beta. And apparently they weren’t used to seeing an alpha like him.
-Good morning,” he approached the bar.
The clerk, a young man who looked him up and down, served him with a smile.
-It’s rare and nice to meet new faces around here,” he said, “What do you want? I can do a lot of things for you.
Madox didn’t even bother to smile. He had no patience for cheap flirtations. He reached into his trouser pocket and put the paper with the address on the wood.
-What address is this? The exact spot,” he regulated his voice. He was anxious, too anxious to keep calm.
The boy, with a disappointed grimace, checked the paper and raised an eyebrow.
-It’s over there,” he pointed to the gas station across the street from the coffee shop.
Madox blinked when he looked at it and pursed his lips.
-There must be a mistake. I got a call from the place indicating the address. It can’t be there.
-In that case there’s no question. There’s a pay phone there. It’s the only one for miles around. If someone called him, it was probably from that place…
Madox’s shoulders slumped. Of course it wouldn’t be that easy. What ideas was he getting? Was he getting so crazy as to hope for a fantasy he was trying so hard to believe? Well, apparently he was.
-Are there any boys in this town or nearby who have long, curly, reddish hair? He must be pregnant at best as he is omega. He is small. His name is Julian.
The boy bowed his head and then shook his head with a smile.
-I don’t know what whore you might be talking about but I can assure you that you can find better things that are much closer.
What the boy didn’t know was that after he finished saying those words he would completely regret it. His body fell to his knees trembling, so pale that his skin became translucent. Shuddering in fear at the look he received from that man and a force that slammed him violently to the ground.
Madox barely moved but his pheromones had been shot in the boy’s direction when he had mentioned the word whore. He was calling Julian a whore, his omega. He wouldn’t allow it. As if she had to kill him to make him apologize to her in the afterlife. And for a beta to feel his pheromones meant he was expelling them without any control.
-Client please,” a middle-aged man kept his distance but was trying to appease him.
-You must have some balls to offend an alpha, you little boy,” he growled ignoring the man.
-I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” the boy cried uncontentedly, barely able to breathe.
The atmosphere in the cafeteria had changed and everyone had become tense at the scene. Only after a few seconds Madox retracted his pheromones and clicked his tongue. This was a total waste of time.
He turned and walked out of the cafeteria clenching his fists. He stopped near the car and kicked the wheel releasing his frustration. Coming to that place just to be flirted with was disgusting. And coming just on an impulse had been utter stupidity.
He opened the car door, he would call for his jet to come pick him up. He should be working, not chasing a ghost. He’d always been a man of science, not a hopeless romantic, and as much as it pained him to admit it, it was time he let Julian go so she could rest in peace.
-Excuse me,” he heard a voice behind him and looked over his shoulder without much interest.
-What?” He had no patience, least of all for this young man who seemed to be doing the same thing as everyone else, flirting with her.
The girl recoiled trembling but even though she lowered her head she spoke.
-I overheard the conversation she had with the boy inside the cafeteria.
-And? just remembering it made him growl.
-There’s a rumor that there’s been someone for a few months in the house on the hill. No one knows who it is because he never comes out but I heard from the woman who lives there that it’s someone who needs special care.
The breeze blew. The sound of the waves could be heard in the distance and Madox felt his chest fill with air and something else.
Could it be…
Julian’s body had never been found. That was the only hope he had left. He didn’t remember if he thanked the girl after she gave him directions because when he reacted he was in front of the road closure halfway up the hill. It was covered with thick foliage and only a path of flattened stones indicated the way.
-Really?” he protested, clicking his tongue.
He went out the door. From there to the top there had to be at least three kilometers uphill. There was only one way left and that was on foot. That would be difficult…but not impossible.
By the time Madox reached the top it was noon and the sun was shining brightly. The wind was stronger than at the bottom but the view was worth it. From there you could see the sea, the town below, the small pier. The smaller hills and the scenery around was somewhat impressive.
But that wasn’t what caught his attention. Unlike the rest of the hill this place was devoid of large trees but there were many flowering bushes surrounding a medium sized house of planks and a gabled roof. It looked like a doll’s house, all painted white among so much color. It was unbelievable that anyone lived there but given the stunning area even he would go to that end of the world.
He climbed the small staircase and knocked on the door. He felt nervous and his hands were shaking. He could barely feel his shirt clinging to his sweaty skin after the walk. He knocked three times but got no answer and each time the anxiety grew more and more. It couldn’t be that he had come so far to return with nothing. Her instinct was never wrong.
When no one came out she went downstairs and without giving up she began to go around the house and found that despite the windows being open there was no movement. To his surprise behind the house was a large patio adorned with flowers, benches and a wooden swing that swung back and forth. On it sat someone stroking his slightly bulging belly.
Madox froze. He could not breathe, could not speak.
That person noticed that he was not alone and with a slow movement carefully got up from the swing. A wide, white shirt contrasted with his reddish hair that was once long and now danced in messy curls at the level of his neck. A soft smile appeared on his lips.
-I didn’t think you’d find me so quickly, let alone come,” she said.
Madox felt the weight of those words but couldn’t stop a tear from running down her cheek.
-Julian-
