I'm Not Yours, Alpha
I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 28

Dominic arrived at the hospital almost out of breath, and no sooner had the nurse on duty told him where Madox was than he ran back around the corner and saw him sitting next to a young boy. His eyes were closed and his head was leaning against the wall behind him. His expression was grim.

He knew from the bond between them that his partner wasn’t dead, or else he wouldn’t be standing, but he deduced that his condition wasn’t good enough for his friend to be like this. Madox sensed it and opened his eyes, frowning at the sight. He stood up and walked to stand in front of him. His alpha pheromones flooded all over the place showing his rage and Dominic’s responded in response. It was a natural alpha instinct to reject another alpha even if they had been friends for a long time.

-You know the only reason I don’t hit you,” Madox snarled, “is because I need you to be at your best when he leaves the room.

-What happened to him? Dominic ignored his words, he was only interested in his partner.

The atmosphere was still tense and Julian, omega finally felt scared and suffocated. He dropped against his alpha’s arm and hugged him, panting. Only when he realised the damage to his body and his imposed submissive state did he unconsciously lower his head and suppress his pheromones.

-Madox leaned down to embrace him, taking him in her arms afterwards, sitting him down again and kneeling in front of him. His head was held low and he was trembling.

That was why she didn’t like to bother in front of him. He was too strong and he on the other hand was the other end of the chain. He was an omega who succumbed to the stronger race quickly. That had gotten him into trouble in his life so he barely interacted with people more than necessary. Madox shook his head and touched his cheek. His eyes were unfocused but he was beginning to recover.

Once his condition was more stable he sat up and faced Dominic again, who had not spoken for a few minutes. They were now more relaxed and could speak more civilly for the sake of the young man near them.

-Your omega is in critical condition,” the alpha said coolly, “His body is really weak. The detoxification has been very violent even though he showed no outward signs, but inside he is a mess. You also created a bond during your heat and that stimulated his omega part faster than it should have. After that he has been under a lot of stress.

This time it was Dominic who trembled, barely able to say anything. He couldn’t imagine that Aidan was suffering so much. Guilt assaulted him, depressing him. Madox still showed no mercy, it wasn’t over, it was better to tell him everything if the worst happened.

-When Aidan escaped he was attacked by someone,” a wild rage ran through the younger alpha but he restrained himself but he felt like strangling whoever had laid hands on his omega, “Julian saved him luckily,” he nodded to the boy who had put his forehead on the male h*p feeling protected now that he wasn’t aggressive, “When he called me I didn’t imagine it was him or that it was so bad,” Madox didn’t know it was him.

-Madox don’t turn around, what’s happening to him,” the words he had said when he had picked up the phone still echoed in his head.

-Your omega’s heart is failing,” Madox was slow to continue with the second part, “Before you arrived he had a cardiac arrest. It took resuscitation and he almost didn’t make it.

Dominic could have sworn his world spun because he needed his friend’s help to sit up and stay upright. His omega, his destined mate, the young man he had bonded with had almost died, or rather, had been dead for who knows how long. She knew that because of how little they had created their bond and because of his turmoil it was hard for it to have solidified and she could hardly feel anything. But she still wished she had some of his pain.

-And how is he now?” she dropped her head into her hands, her voice shaky.

-They’re levelling his heart so it can beat steadily but he’ll need a few days in the hospital until he’s out of danger, the chances are 50-50, as his body is really weak,” the alpha sat down next to his friend, “It would be good if you were by his side, you’re his destined mate, and your closeness will help him. Before he collapsed, he was already beginning to show the first symptoms of omega separation depression. That aggravated the situation.

Dominic took his head out of his hands and looked at his friend through his matted hair.

-If I’d never come into his life, he wouldn’t be in pain from the change, he wouldn’t have to miss the job he loves because of health problems, he wouldn’t be in that room,” he lamented.

-And he wouldn’t be alive three years from now,” Madox finished with a frown. “If you hadn’t come into his life, yes, it’s true he wouldn’t be in pain, but I assure you it’s better than being manipulated by his family into marrying a man who only wants him to know what, and has no real idea who he is. Can you even imagine a life like that. Put yourself in his shoes before you think like that.

Julian touched his alpha’s arm, stroking it up and down to calm him. Madox got very excited when he argued.

-Wait until he’s better and talk like two responsible adults. You take responsibility for your actions and he can learn to deal with his fear of you now, which I assure you won’t last long. Now that you have marked him and his omega part is developing fast, be sure that it will be difficult for him to distance himself from you without it hurting both of you. That’s why I hate destined couples, they are so tragic. That’s why it’s better to be a free soul.

He didn’t realise that his words echoed inside the little omega next to him who stopped the massage.

-Is something wrong, puppy?

Julian shook his head and smiled. He was no one to complain, after all they only got together when his heat came and only once in a while. Madox lived in a completely different world to him. He was an alpha with a name, famous and powerful, next to him had to be someone of his own calibre. For the moment he would keep him by his side but as soon as someone came into his life he would be sure to disappear. He could withstand anything but the alpha’s hatred.

Minutes later the door to the room opened and the doctor in charge stepped out, removing the mask covering his mouth. Seeing another new tenant and the mood he assumed it was someone close to the patient.

-Mr. Aidan,” he began to say and the three of them got up walking towards him with anguish on their faces, “For the moment he is stable, although he is connected because he can’t breathe on his own at the moment, he didn’t have any more relapse with his heart although some of the medicines didn’t work because of the amount of chemicals in his system.

-I gave him some medicine to help him decontaminate himself,” Madox told the doctor.

-And I appreciate that, otherwise the intervention would have been in vain, the resuscitation would not have worked.

-Can we see him? Dominic was extremely worried after hearing all this.

-In a few moments, they’re finishing putting him on the bed and connecting him to follow the rhythm of his heart. We didn’t insert a pacemaker or anything, but from now on we have to be very cautious. We found a fissure in the outer layer of the organ and we must not neglect it.

Every word the doctor said was a stab in the alpha’s back. Still he held back and waited until he was allowed in to see it. He was petrified at the door. The serious, confident, strong young man he knew was lying in bed hooked up to so many machines he lost count and deathly pale.

He staggered. What had he done?
