Chapter 989 You're Too Rude

As soon as Evelyn returned to the room, Hawk caught up with her. Evelyn had an intuition that he was up to no good, so she stood behind the sofa without even going to the bedside.

Hawk entered the room and saw the petite figure. He closed the door unhurriedly and locked it with a click.

Following his movements, Evelyn narrowed her eyes and stared at him warily.

"You'll only make me more excited if you look at me like this." Hawk was not in a hurry to get close to her. Instead, he took a bottle of wine from the only independent cabinet in the room. The bottle had no label, and no one knew where it came from. He didn't use a cup and took a sip directly at the mouth of the bottle. "Do you want some?"

"I don't drink."

"You're lying to me again," Hawk remembered that she was a woman who could drink. "You have a good friend who can drink, don't you? Her name seems to be... Unfortunately, I forgot her name."

He gazed at the contracted pupils of Evelyn, savoring the sensation of having control over her emotions. He continued, relaxed and self-satisfied, "Investigating her ambiguous lawyer boyfriend back then took me quite a bit of effort as well."

Hawk leaned against the edge of the table, crossing his long legs slightly, tilting his head to gaze at a corner of the room, seemingly lost in reminiscence. "But then again, if it weren't for Huston taking on this case, it would have likely fallen on her boyfriend's shoulders. So now, the one suffering in your place is probably her."

After that, he looked at Evelyn and blinked. "What do you think? Do you regret it?"

Evelyn knew that he deliberately said those words to torment her. After being imprisoned for two days, she was no longer as frightened as before. Instead, a sense of indifference had taken over. "Heartless and merciless individuals like you, who have no friends or family, would never understand how I feel."

In her eyes, Hawk was a devil. He had no human feelings. He was just a cold-blooded animal, and all his emotions were fake from head to toe. This man was not sincere.

Her words made his hand holding the bottle, pause for a moment. Suddenly, he burst into laughter, speaking as if driven by madness, "Friends? Family? They would only bring me harm."

"No," Evelyn looked straight into his eyes. This was the first time she directly expressed her thoughts to him. "It's not them who caused your misfortune; it's your own doing. The concept of karma perfectly describes it. You reap what you sow. The consequences you face are a result of your actions."

She stood there, appearing so helpless and vulnerable, yet she straightened her posture and boldly told him that he had brought all of this upon himself. No one had ever dared to say these things to him before. Hawk didn't know whether he should applaud her or reprimand her.

Hawk picked up the bottle and took another big gulp. Compared with his previous action, he seemed to be a little impatient. It seemed like he was trying to quell his anger with the chilling alcohol, but unfortunately, the anger only flared up instead of subsiding.

He walked toward Evelyn and forced her to the corner. The smile in his eyes was gone, leaving only a bone-chilling coldness. His sensual lips were coated with a shimmering gloss from the pale yellow tint of the alcohol. He smirked coldly, gripping her cheeks tightly with his fingers. At that moment, a sense of murderous intent was palpable.

"You're too rude."

Almost as soon as he finished speaking, Evelyn found herself lifted onto his shoulder, completely powerless and at his mercy. She felt like a weightless object, instantly stripped of her autonomy.

"Ah!" Everything spun before her eyes, and the sound of her distress grew even more pitiful. "Put me down!"

Hawk's shoulder pressed against her stomach, and the oppressive pain made her face turn pale.
