Finding Love in the Boss’s Embrace After Divorce -
Chapter 424
Chapter 424 So, You Don't Believe Me
Huston glanced at her sitting upright on the stool and walked over to sit beside her. "Go ahead."
"In the villa, Mia blocked my parents outside the door. She claimed to be your childhood sweetheart and your girlfriend, while she called me the third party. Her words were unbearable, insulting not only me but also my parents. My father had a heart attack due to the anger she caused. Sadie can testify to all of this, as she was present at the time," said Evelyn calmly, enunciating each word, trying to keep her voice from sounding too agitated.
She just wanted to tell him the truth, whether he believed it or
not.
Hearing this, Huston was somewhat shocked. Although Mia had always had feelings for him, she had never been so direct.
as to say it openly.
However, he didn't disbelieve her because he didn't know
Mia would return from the North town villa that day. She was
supposed to come back the next day.
Brad did not report her return to him, so there must be a plan
behind it.
It seemed that Mia intended to run into Evelyn's parents.
Evelyn caught a glimpse of the man's somber expression from the corner of her eye. His gaze was profound, concealing emotions that were hard to decipher. However, at that moment, she had no intention of speculating. She simply spoke to him, saying, "I admit, when I saw my father collapsing, I was furious. I even wished I could kill her. But even when she provoked me with words, I only grabbed her by the neck. I didn't intend to harm her fatally, let alone push her
down. I didn't exert much force."
Huston's lips twitched as if he wanted to say something but
ultimately held back. His chest heaved heavily, emanating a strong aura of hostility. His eyes were cold as he spoke, "Perhaps, it's just that you think you didn't exert much force."
No matter how extreme Mia was, she wouldn't joke about her
own life. She couldn't swim, so if she fell into the water, she was in constant danger of losing her life. She would never put her life at risk like that.
When Evelyn heard his reply, she only raised her head slightly
to look at him. There was no other emotion on her face. She
had begun to get numb and hurt by him.
His simple words shattered all the explanations that had not
yet been spoken. There was no need to explain. It's futile when someone doesn't believe in you, no matter how much you
explain.
Evelyn looked at the pair of eyes that used to be infinitely gentle and soft but now only had coldness left. Her gaze became misty. "So, you don't believe me."
Huston's face turned slightly as if asking her and, at the same time, questioning himself, "So, tell me, why did she do this,
hmm?"
As their eyes met, they both saw the pained expressions on each other's faces. Feeling uneasy, Evelyn averted her gaze first. She smiled, stood up, shook her head, and softly said,
"Yes, I pushed her."
If she couldn't explain, then let him misunderstand. It didn't matter anymore. She would leave.
Huston's eyes had never been so cold. The dark depths of his eyes were devoid of any light. Seeing her silent admission, his
hands clenched tightly by his sides. "I understand that she
must have been at fault first, and I know the positions you
both hold. But human life is not a trivial matter. Even if you were angry, you shouldn't harm her physically."
Evelyn's eyelashes trembled for a moment, and she looked up
at him. "Didn't her actions harm my father? Tell me, is Mia's life more important? Are the lives of our entire family not important?"
The two stood face to face, unable to communicate smoothly. Although Huston wanted to say something more, he couldn't find the words when he saw the seriousness in her eyes and
remained silent.
