Chapter 114

Edith was anxiously waiting outside the gate. Before she saw Teresa again, two burly men came out.

Without saying a word, they went towards her and tied her up right away. Her mouth was stuffed, and her eyes were covered when they threw her into

the car.

Edith fell into extreme panic.

After being on the road for a long time, the car finally stopped.

Edith seemed to have heard the bodyguard say to the security guard, “Mr. Britton ordered us to send her here.”

Then, the door creaked open. Edith was sent in but was stopped by a woman.

“Why did you send her here?”

“I heard that this girl offended Mr. Britton, but it seems that she has something to do with Mr. Lawson, so Mr. Britton specially sent her here for Mr. Lawson to deal with. I was just about to report it to Mr. Lawson!”

Upon hearing this, the woman frowned and her beautiful eyes fell on Edith. When she saw Edith’s pretty face, she couldn’t help narrowing her eyes.

She changed her mind and said, “Mr. Britton is getting more and more muddle–headed. He clearly knows that Carlos doesn’t like other women, but why did he still send her here? He has always been looking for women for Carlos, but now he’s even bold enough to send these women right to Carlos‘ doorstep. Carlos is still working. If you go in now, he might be angry. I’m sure you can imagine the consequences when Carlos is mad.”

When the bodyguard heard this, he seemed to have imagined how angry Carlos would be, causing him to tremble in fear as his lips paled.

He was in a dilemma. “But… Mr. Britton’s men said that we must send her to Mr. Lawson.”

“Isn’t it the same when you send her to me? Carlos dotes on me the most. I’ll handle this matter. You can leave now.”

The guard breathed a sigh of relief when he heard this.

“Then I’ll have to trouble you, Miss Huffam.”

After listening to their conversation quietly, Edith felt a little strange. “I thought Carlos never liked any woman. Why does he have a woman at his place? Or… could he be bisexual? Since he has a woman by his side, why did he have to make things so difficult for me?” Edith was upset by her thoughts.

Just as Edith was feeling a littlo upset, the blindfold and the cloth in her mouth were pulled off. She saw the sun again and saw Miss Huffam as well.

Edith hadn’t been able to react when she heard her name before, but now that she had seen her, she recognized who Miss Huffam was. She was actually Meggie Huffam, the popular actress. Any shows that she acted in would be popular!

In the past, Edith felt that Meggie was indescribably beautiful when she watched her on TV. But now, when she looked at Meggie closely, she found that she was even more beautiful and impeccable..

Moreover, her image on the screen was sweet and lovely, and she was the famous Sugar Pea. Edith believed that Meggie should not make things too difficult for her.

However, she did not understand why Meggie was at Carlos‘ place. Could there be some scandal between them?

“Do you know who I am?”

Meggie crossed her arms in front of her chest and sat down on the couch with a smile on her face.

“You’re Meggie Huffam, the popular actress. Why… why are you here?”

“Shh, don’t make it a big thing. I’m here secretly. Don’t tell anyone. Otherwise, it will be very troublesome if the paparazzi find out,” Meggie said with a faint smile and then asked the servants to untie Edith.

Upon hearing this, Edith’s eyes widened as she thought, “Could it be that they are having an affair, but they chose to keep it a secret because they did not want to paparazzi to make their relationship public?

“In fact, Carlos likes women. It’s just that he likes a celebrity, so it was inconvenient for him to make it public. Is that why he created the illusion to outsiders that he didn’t like women?”

The more Edith thought about it, the more she felt that she was right. However, she could not figure out why he wanted to marry her. Could it be that he had other plans?

“Miss Huffam, I just happened to know Mr. Lawson by chance. Mr. Britton misunderstood things, so he sent me here. I’m sorry if it offended you, and please forgive me for the inconvenience caused.” Edith quickly explained, trying to please Meggie. She mentioned nothing about her relationship with Carlos at all because she did not want to get involved with the Lawson family anymore as it took her a lot of effort just to leave them.

Moreover, Meggie might not even know that Carlos was going to marry Edith. Edith was worried that she would irritate the superstar if she told her everything.

“It’s okay, that’s how Mr. Britton is. After all, he doesn’t know about me yet. Carlos and I are keeping a very low profile, so you have to keep it a secret for us! Carlos is still working, so please don’t disturb him. I’ll get someone to send you back later.”

“It’s fine. I can go back on my own!”

Edith waved her hand repeatedly, then turned around and left with a smile.

When Edith left, she was still thinking about how kind Meggie was, about how Meggie was exactly the same as how she appeared on the screen. She really wanted to go back and tell Sarah that she had seen the superstar. But since she had promised to keep it a secret, she would say nothing about it.

The moment Edith turned around, the smile on Meggie’s face disappeared. She narrowed her beautiful eyes and looked at Edith’s back with hostility.

“Why did this girl remind me of myself so much? Is this how she managed to get closer to Carlos?” Meggie thought bitterly.

She clenched her fists and tried her best to suppress her anger.

Every time Carlos was with another woman, Meggie would feel uneasy. Even if it was just a business partner, she could not stand it.

She had been by his side for so many years. She could not let go of him, let alone give him away!

Hence, she made a call to her manager right away.

“Lizzy, help me to check on who Carlos has been interacting with these days. Pay extra attention to the women!”

It was not the first time that Lizzy had helped Meggie to investigate such things that Lizzy was getting tired of it. It was most likely Meggie was being paranoid again.

Carlos practically had no women around him. Lizzy had investigated this matter over a hundred times, and there was never a woman who was close to

him.

However, Lizzy could only obey Meggie because the latter had a relationship with the Lawson family. Hence, she could only do as she was told.

Just as Lizzy was about to hang up, Meggie chuckled unexpectedly and said, “It’s time to spread the secret relationship between Carlos and me. It’s time for people to know.”

Lizzy was a little surprised to hear this. “Carlos agreed to this? It’s impossible…”

“Just do as I say.”

Meggie had lost her patience and hung up the call.

About half an hour later, Meggie knocked on the door of Carlos‘ study with an exquisite plate of desserts. A faint response came from inside the room.

“Come in.”

Meggie was delighted to hear his voice. Over the years, she was the only woman who could move around this villa at will. She could also take care of his daily life, but the only bad thing was that she couldn’t stay overnight, even if she slept in the guest room.

She had carefully abided by his rules, and he had dated on her endlessly.

She went in with the dessert. “I just made this. I know that you don’t like sweet things, so I specially made a sugarless cake for you and made you your favorite coffee.”

Carlos had been working non–stop, so he had not had dinner yet. Indeed, he was hungry.

He picked up a piece of cake and put it in his mouth, but he suddenly found it hard to swallow.

There was no sweetness at all, only a little saltiness, which was used to enhance the taste.

“It’s too bland,” he said after taking only a bite. Then, he put it down and took a sip of his coffee.

“Bland? Haven’t you always liked this?” Meggie tasted one, and it still tasted the same as before.

Upon hearing this, the image of the Edith holding a sweet cake and eating non–stop suddenly appeared in his mind. It was as if eating sweets was the happiest thing to do in the world.

He missed Edith a little.
