Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) -
Chapter 45
The moment it was touched, she felt as if electricity coursed through her, causing an uncontrollable shiver.
Rupert noticed her reaction, his gaze darkening as he leaned in closer, a droplet of coffee from his collar falling onto her stomach.
Sylvia's shivering became more pronounced. A dark desire brewed in Rupert's eyes as he stared straight at Sylvia, not bothering to hide his intent.
"Just as sensitive as that night."
"I wasn't!" Sylvia countered.
"Really? That's not how you sounded back then."
His low chuckle was laced with mischief. His thumb, adorned with the ruby ring, traced the droplet on Sylvia's belly, the warm jade strangely comforting yet bizarre. Sylvia's stomach contracted, and she let out a soft gasp, which Rupert promptly silenced.
"Mmm..."
Rupert was playing with fire!
If anyone from the Garcia family caught them, she'd be done for!
Yet, Sylvia's strength was no match for Rupert's as he lifted her up and captured her lips.
Suddenly, a knock echoed through the room, "Sylvia, are you in there?"
It was Warren.
Sylvia stiffened in shock.
Rupert, however, just narrowed his eyes, and carrying her in his arms, he moved towards the door.
Sylvia clung to him out of sheer panic, fearing his next move. But he kissed her even more passionately, his hands boldly wandering over her skin.
And Warren was just on the other side of the door!
Sylvia felt humiliated and helpless, her eyes pleading with Rupert to stop.
Warren continued knocking, "Sylvia, what's wrong? Why is the door locked? Something happened?"
The persistent knocking threatened to alert others.
In a panic, Sylvia clutched Rupert's shirt collar tightly. Just as Warren was about to call for others, Rupert released her, whispering, "Consider yourself lucky," by her ear. Sylvia quickly got down, picked up the coffee beans from the floor, took a deep breath, and opened the door.
"Warren! I'm fine, I accidentally locked the door when I came in."
"Why didn't you answer then?" Warren asked with concern.
"I...I was reaching for something on a shelf and didn't want to get distracted. I came down to open the door as soon as I could," Sylvia explained, pressing her lip. Warren nodded; noticing her flushed cheeks, he asked worriedly, "Why is your face so red? Are you feeling alright?"
Sylvia shook her head, "I just rushed over here, that's all."
"No rush, as long as you're okay. Let's go make some coffee."
"Okay."
As they left the coffee room, Sylvia cast a glance aside.
Rupert leaned against the wall, twirling his ring, looking both lazy and dangerous.
Sylvia didn't dare linger, closing the door firmly behind her.
While brewing coffee in the kitchen, she stepped out to the backyard to catch her breath and calm down. Warren handed her a plate of fruit freshly cut by a servant.
"What's on your mind?"
"Nothing."
Sylvia popped a cherry into her mouth, but its sweet crispness reminded her of Rupert, ruining her appetite. Looking at the concerned Warren, she couldn't help worrying about the dreadful rumors she had heard.
Sylvia cautiously asked, "Warren, do you and Rupert...have any beef?"
"He is now the head of the family. He's strict with business but treats us well. Why do you ask this question?"
"Just curious. It seems like he always sends you abroad."
"Just for training. If I were as capable as him, I wouldn't need such long training," Warren joked.
Sylvia didn't press further. As the coffee was ready, she left the fruit to prepare it.
Warren's gaze following her the entire time.
