Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover -
Chapter 806
"What's the big deal about an engagement anyway?"
Kent was looking pretty grim, having tried calling Eve several times with no luck. Right now, both sets of parents were seated in the place of honor, waiting for the bride and groom-to-be to serve them tea. Claire and Kent were already in their seats, but the couple was
nowhere to be found.
Claire was visibly annoyed too. "Where on earth are they?"
The emcee chimed in, "We couldn't get ahold of Mr. Pax and Ms. Eve, but the folks at the entrance said they haven't left. Maybe they're just chilling in their room."
Claire snapped, "Go get them down here."
Someone quickly went to fetch them. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, curious about what was going on.
Five minutes later, Claire's aide returned, saying, "Ms. Eve and Mr. Cassie aren't in Mr. Cassie's room. We've checked the nearby guest rooms too, and there's no sign of them."
The aide hesitated, "It's just that..."
Claire shot him a steely glare. "Just what? Spit it out."
"I found this at Mr. Connor's door," the aide said, holding up a pearl earring, unmistakably Eve's from today.
Claire shrugged it off, "That's Eve's, alright. Probably just dropped it by accident."
The aide pressed on, "But I heard sounds from inside a man and a woman, you know, being together. It sounded like Ms. Eve and Mr. Connor."
The room collectively gasped. Kent, who had been waiting to be served tea, jumped up in fury. He kicked the aide in the chest, "What rubbish are you talking about? Say one more word, and I'll make you regret it."
The audacity to say such things! The whole banquet hall fell silent for a moment, then erupted into chaos with whispers swirling around.
Claire was fuming too, "Do you have any idea what today is? How dare you spread such outrageous rumors? Are you asking for trouble?"
The aide, despite the kick, stood his ground. "I'm not wrong. I heard what I heard. It was Ms. Eve and Mr. Connor. You can all go and see for yourselves."
Kent looked like he was about to
explode, but there was a flicker of doubt. How could a simple servant lie in front of everyone? Plus,
everyone knew Eve had a thingx net
Connor. Could Connor be trying to sabotage Pax's wedding to get back at Claire? It seemed far-fetched, but who knew?
Claire suddenly stood up, "Inform Jeffery and Marian, and everyone else, follow me to figure out what's happening."
Without another word, Claire headed
upstairs, with a throng of guests on
her heels. This was the kind of juicy scandal that nobody wanted to miss. If i turned out to be true, the Nagel and Sartori families' reputations would be seriously tarnished. Despite the risk of exposing family drama, Claire invited everyone along, perhaps because of her rocky relationship with Connor.
But all anyone really wanted now was the truth. Soon, the crowd was packed tight outside Connor's door, the corridor buzzing with
anticipation. Claire and Kent stood at the front, with Kent shaking from anger. Behind them, a bunch of young folks had their phones out, some even live-streaming the whole ordeal, eager to capture the drama.
From inside, the faint sounds of a couple's intimate moments could be heard, making everyone blush.
"Open the door!" Claire commanded, her voice cutting through the tension.
