Rachel cleared her throat, realizing that the meal she had prepared might be too modest for someone of his wealth.

However, for her, such a simple meal was comforting and fulfilling.

“Noodles with tomatoes and eggs,” Rachel introduced slowly.

After prodding the dish a couple of times with his fork, Alberto glanced at Rachel and asked, “Are you certain these are noodles?”

Rachel gently tapped her nose and offered an explanation.

“I went to find you when the noodles were ready, so they’ve been sitting for a while.

But it’s not a problem; they’re still good to eat.”

Alberto set his fork down without a word.

Rachel furrowed her brow and pondered for a moment.

Taking into account Alberto’s fragile health, she proposed, “Would you like me to prepare another bowl for you?”

“No, I’ll pass.”

After saying that, Alberto picked up his fork and had a taste.

It was only after Alberto finished his first mouthful of noodles that Rachel felt assured the meal could be eaten.

She settled down across from him, stirring her bowl of noodles with her fork before lifting a mouthful and savoring it.

Though the noodles had lost their tender texture, they retained a delicious taste.

Rachel’s hunger got the better of her, and she quickly finished the noodles.

Meanwhile, after managing to eat half his bowl, Alberto stopped eating.

“Ahem… Ahem…” Once more, Alberto succumbed to a bout of coughing.

Rachel got up and fetched a glass of water for Alberto.

Concerned about his deteriorating condition, she suggested, “You don’t look well.

Maybe we should consider taking you to the hospital.”

“No need.” Then Alberto took a sip of water.

Glancing at her phone, Rachel noted that it was almost nine o’clock.

Somehow, she had spent over an hour in the mansion; it was time for her to return home.

Alberto remained firm in his decision not to go to the hospital, and Rachel felt helpless.

She understood that ultimately it was his own body, and if he chose not to take care of himself, there was little she could do.

“ALL right then.” Rachel gave in.

“It’s getting late.

You should rest.

I’ll leave now and won’t disturb you.”

With his eyelashes drooping, Alberto didn’t say anything.

Rachel remembered that she had left her bag in the kitchen.

Taking Alberto’s silence as consent, she moved to retrieve her bag, intending to leave shortly after.

As Rachel emerged from the kitchen, she witnessed Alberto reaching out for a glass of water.

However, to her surprise, he suddenly coughed, causing the glass to slip from his grasp and crash onto the floor.

Then, water splattered across the floor, forming a small puddle.

She couldn’t leave without addressing the situation.

Rachel furrowed her brows, feeling a slight headache coming on.

She approached him and inquired, “Where are your servants?”

“They’re on a day off.” His voice was low and hoarse.

His eyes flickered towards her bag, then back to her.

“You’re free to leave now.

I won’t escort you out.”
