Bryan gaped at his retreating form.

He stood up.

When he looked down, he immediately recognized his slipper.

Limping forward, he slipped it on and crossed his arm over his chest.

He did not know who threw the stones, but that person might hurl some at him as well, so he decided to leave the place.

He looked around as he walked.

When he exited the passage, he saw a figure leaning against the wall with several small stones in her hand.

Rachel raised her head and stared at Bryan.

As soon as he saw the stones, Bryan knew the woman was the one who had thrown them at his assailant earlier.

He lowered his head and tried to get away from her as soon as possible.

He quickened his pace and walked past Rachel.

“Hey,” Rachel called, trying to stop him.

Bryan shivered and began muttering, “No, she’s not calling me.

She’s not calling me.”

He took two more steps forward.

Suddenly, he felt something hit his knee, nearly making him fall down.

Rachel walked up to him, but he did not raise his head.

He swallowed and said in a trembling voice, “I.

I’m sorry.

Please don’t hurt me!”

He kept begging until tears gathered in his eyes.

Rachel wordlessly threw something at him.

Instinctively, Bryan caught it.

It was a key ring with a key and a blank bullet dangling from it.

Because of the numerous scratches on it, it appeared to be quite old.

It was his key.

Taken aback, Bryan patted his pocket.

As expected, his key was not there.

He must have dropped it while he was being pummeled earlier.

Finally, Bryan raised his head and looked at Rachel, who was about the same height as him.

There was wariness and amazement in his eyes.

He was expecting to see a tough-looking person, so he was caught off guard by her delicate beauty.

“Thank you.” It was then that he realized that the woman only wanted to help him, not hurt him.

Rachel glanced at his swollen eyes before walking away without saying anything.

For a moment, Bryan could only stare at the key in his palm.

Then, he closed his hand into a fist and chased after the woman.

The two of them walked forward for about five minutes until a vein twitched in Rachel’s temple.

Massaging the side of her head, Rachel stopped walking and turned to look at Bryan.

Bryan had his head lowered, so he did not notice when Rachel stopped.

As a result, he almost bumped into her.
