Joey regarded him with suspicion and remained silent.

With a grin, Hector explained, “Yesterday, I tripped and fell here.

If it weren’t for you, I’d probably have frozen to death.

I was in such a rush that I forgot to thank you.”

He could make a convincing fib with ease.

Joey’s lips began to twitch at the corner.

First of all, the ground at the gate was not slick.

Besides, Hector did not seem to have fallen, since he was still able to argue with the two young cops and walk with his walking stick.

On top of that, Joey did not help in any way.

As a matter of fact, he had the police come so that they could put Hector in jail.

In other words, Hector didn’t have to thank him.

Joey eyed him warily.

Hector coughed.

He was aware that his justification was rather implausible, but he felt compelled to continue since he already began.

“Young man, your intelligence is obvious.

To say thank you for saving my life yesterday would be insufficient.” In a cheerful mood, Hector grinned.

The piercing look in his eyes faded, and his eyes softened.

“Why don’t you be my apprentice?”

Joey didn’t answer.

“I’m not in a hurry, though.

You can go home and think about it first.” Before Joey could react, Hector added, “Kid, you don’t know how many people want to be my apprentice.”

Obviously, he was showing off to convince Joey.

Hector wanted Joey to say yes right away even though he said he would give him time to think.

“Seize the opportunity if you don’t want to regret it in the future.”

At Gardenia, Rachel drove into the yard and came to a halt in the open parking lot.

As soon as she got out of the car, the person waiting outside the villa approached her.

“Long time no see, Miss Bennet.”

Rachel didn’t think twice and hugged her.

“Long time no see, Eva.”

“It’s been four years since we last saw each other, but you’re still as beautiful as ever.” Eva gave her a modest smile when they broke the hug.

Four years ago, Victor’s men took Rachel here so Eva could do her makeup.

Although they had only met once, Rachel had a deep impression of Eva since the latter was one of the few women Rachel had met after her rebirth.

Now, the once reticent stylist Eva had become one of the shareholders of Gardenia, the most popular hair salon.

She looked confident and graceful now.
