Blurred Lines 1: CHASE -
Chapter 75
~Sofia~
Chase held a bottle of Pinot Noir in one hand, gripped my hand with the other as I knocked on Jessica's door. I peeked a glance at Chase, admiring him in his winter attire. Boots, fitted jeans, a blue cashmere sweater - a shade darker than his eyes - coat, and a gray scarf around his neck. Dust of snow bespeckled his dark blond hair and shoulders. He caught me staring, but I didn't dare look away.
It has been two days since that romantic surprise date in my apartment, and I've never been happier.
Chase smirked, dipped down for a kiss in time for Jessica to open the door.
The Scientist by Coldplay pulsed from the speaker, and savory and sweet aroma drifts through the air. Cheeks burning, I narrowed my eyes at Jessica. She held the door open, grinning like a sap.
"Oh, come on," she stomped her feet with a pout. "You can't still be mad at me, are you?"
Indeed. I would be a fool to be mad about what she did, but I still gave her my coldest glare just to be difficult. "Traitor."
Jessica blew out a breath melodramatically, drawing me into a tight embrace. "You love me."
I patted her back, giggling. "You're lucky I do."
"How can you not? I'm special and lovable." Jessica released me with a laugh and pulled Chase into an
embrace.
I hung my coat on the rack, catching sight of Franco busy with the fireplace and Rafael mixing drinks at the breakfast bar.
Georgia saw me, and a grin split her pretty face in half. She rounded the breakfast bar separating the kitchen and living room.
"Oh, glad you made it," Georgia murmured against my hair as I met her halfway, enveloping her in a warm hug.
"Smells good in here," I commented as Rafael approached us, slapping a hand on Georgia's b**t.
The latter swatted his hand playfully. She was obviously enjoying this side of Rafael. We exchanged meaningful glances - saying we needed to catch up on every dirty, spicy detail later before she sauntered back to the kitchen.
The last time we got together, I was a mess for missing Chase and Georgia for missing Rafael. And now we're here, ready to take a leap in our relationship. Rafael and Georgia seemed to be on the same page as us.
"Sofia," Rafael smiled as sweet as the strawberry cheesecake baking and drew me for a tight hug.
"Rafael," I buried my face in his chest.
I can't believe I missed him this much.
"Hands off." Chase yanked me from Rafael's arms and tucked me to his side like I was a little girl who might get lost.
Rafael's brows creased, drawing Georgia on his side too. He eyed Chase's possessive hold on my shoulder and shook his head. "I thought you were smarter than this, Sofia."
Chortling, I wrapped around Chase's waist, who was giving Rafael a stinky eye.
"You are not boarding my plane back to Rio," Chase growled.
Rafael answered him with a chortle, not believing Chase's threat. "I'm fucking happy for you, man," he said as they did one of those brotherly hugs.
"Do you know how miserable this man is?" Rafael turned to me. "He drowned himself in alcohol since you left. Carlota and I were fucking done dealing with his sorry ass."
"Shut the fuck up!" Chase shoved Rafael playfully in the chest.
Chase and I talked - between cuddles and sex - about a lot of things in the last three days, including the part concerning Carlota. It was a huge relief when he made it crystal clear that nothing had happened between them since we started sleeping together. I am confident in my body, but Carlota is so damn gorgeous, and they have a long and colorful history. There had been a lot of women in Chase's past, but taking this chance also came with trust. And so far, Chase seemed to seize this chance.
He'd been pretty sweet, and attentive. Above all, he tried to answer every question I had about his past. Our relationship won't be a walk in the park, but this is a good start.
After introducing Chase and Franco, I left the boys in the living room. They quickly got lost in the basketball game on Jessica's flat screen.
Jessica was making the toppings for her cheesecake in the kitchen while Georgia was heating the garlic rosemary pork loin she had brought.
"How can I help?" I asked, already salivating at the mouth-watering aroma of our dinner.
"The fingerlings," Jessica pointed at the fingerling potatoes in the sink.
"We gonna bake them?" I pulled out a knife and chopping board from the drawers.
Georgia hummed, carefully cutting the twine from the pork loin. She peered at me, sidestepping until her shoulder brushed mine. "So?"
I picked a fingerling and cut it in half. "What?"
Jessica huffed and did a sidestep of her own. They sandwiched me in between. "He kissed you on my doorstep."
Georgia gasped, looking over her shoulder. "Is it official?"
I looked at them innocently. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Huh," they both huffed.
Jessica moved back to stirring her toppings. "Hey, Georgia."
"Hm?"
"Do you wanna hear about Sofia's first kiss?" my treacherous best friend murmured loud enough for the boys to hear her.
My eyes widened, and I peered at the guys. They were so engrossed with the ongoing game to have a care in the world.
Thank God.
There was nothing memorable or magical about Carlo's kiss. Some sentences are incomplete if you are not reading this novel on FindNovel.net. So when he cornered me in the library one afternoon and pushed me against the bookshelf, I thought, this is it. I would feel those butterflies they talk about in romance novels firsthand.
Then the kiss happened. It was wet and sloppy, and that was not the embarrassing part of it all. He kissed for twenty seconds, and when he pulled away, there was a wet spot on his crotch.
I haven't talked to him since.
"Yeah?" Georgia asked excitedly. "I'd love to hear it!"
I gave them a stinky eye. "Fine! Just stop with the first kiss," I made a face and shivered. "I'd like to erase that part of my high school days from my head." They both giggled and high-five behind the back of my head.
I rolled my eyes. I need to find new friends ASAP.
"So?" They sandwiched me again. I swear these two have some kind of metal telepathy going on.
"You two are like a thing now?" Jessica pressed.
I hummed, my cheeks burning as they squealed like excited school girls.
