~Chase-

Kyle Andrews, a thirty-two-year-old defense lawyer. He graduated from Harvard University and worked for his father's law firm until three years ago, the same time he and Sofia got together.

He came from old money, the only son of a lawyer and doctor, and followed in his father's footsteps. Flipping through the cases he handled and won, I'd say it's pretty d*mn colorful. He saved a lot of important people from going to prison for the crime they committed. He's a well-renowned lawyer for the wealthy. Anyone with eyes would see there's something fishy about his career.

Katerina Simone is your typical socialite, it girl, always in attendance at famous clubs and parties. She relishes her family's wealth. She's the kind of girl who'd mess up big time on weekends and woke up on Monday morning with a clean slate as though nothing had happened. Her parents would clean her sh*t after her. Her exes, if not celebrities or athletes, are men from their circle, like Kyle.

Eros' assets found out that Katerina had been cheating on Kyle while Kyle was cheating on Sofia. Their relationship hadn't been caught on camera, but it was d*mn easy for Eros to find evidence of their affair.

In my opinion, they look good together, and Sofia deserves more than this lying b*stard.

I remember what Sofia told me last night. She said that Kyle slept with Katerina at his grandfather's birthday party. He's been seeing Katerina long before that night.

Sofia's decision to take me as her client might have saved her life more than she thought it did.

Thinking of Sofia being a wife to Kyle and a daughter-in-law to his parents left a bitter taste on my tongue. They'd ruin her future. He'd ruin her future more than he already did.

"I've got Santino on speed dial. Just say the word, Chase," Eros stated as I slid the document back into the envelope.

Eros and I met in unconventional circumstances. Despite being friends and business associates, I would never dare cross Eros in any other circumstances, and he knew not to do the same.

"Nah," I handed Eros the file. "He's four thousand miles away from Sofia. If he comes here and bothers her, I'll deal with him my way."

Eros chuckled and finished the last of his beer.

"I really want to meet Sofia in person. I haven't seen you this keen on digging into someone's dirt since Letty." Hearing that name gathered storm clouds above my head. I stood up, leaving the empty beer bottle on the wooden coffee table. "I owe you one, Eros," I snarled sarcastically.

He knew not to mention that name when I was around.

“Come on, Chase. We have to move on at some point," Eros argued, trailing behind me to the door.

I don't wanna argue with Eros. I left his office, ignoring his call and apologies.

I huffed, pushing the backdoor open, the humid breeze slamming my face.

Every Friday night, the streets of this city turn into a giant street party. Random music sailed through the air, and the scent of booze, ocean, cigarettes, and delicious food enticed my mind as I walked to the parking lot. Letty... Not a day passed by when I hadn't thought of her since that night. I don't need Eros to remind me of my past because I haven't forgotten, nor will I ever forget.

F*ck my life.

"Got what you need?" Rafa asked, leaning against his Audi.

I threw my leg over Harley, fixing my helmet on. "Yeah. You can take the rest of the night off."

Rafa glanced at his wristwatch, frowning. "Are you going to see Monica? Because she left with Augusto."

I chortled. Typical Monica. That woman might be head over heels for me, but she couldn't go a night without f*cking around. That's why I make sure to use protection every time I'm f*cking her.

Harley's silent purr swallowed my humorless chuckle. "Augusto can f*ck her as long as he wants. I'm done with Monica."

Rafa smirks. "You gonna see Sofia?"

1 glared at Rafa. He laughed heartily, sliding into his car. "Have a great night, Boss."

Not giving him a response, I swerved out of the parking lot and took the shortcut through the back alley of Velocity, avoiding the congested street.

It was still early, and I would like to apologize to Sofia for being a pr*ck all day.

I intentionally avoided her. We've already had a heated argument this morning, and I don't want to give her more headaches because of my temper. The issue with the Fortaleza plantation occupied my mind, plus I'd been anxious about what Eros would find about Kyle Andrews.

Now that I have all the needed details, I know what course i should take.

"Mr. Montiero," Dahlia, the receptionist, greeted me as soon as I stepped through the glass entrance. "Dahlia," I smiled, happy to see she was still working the night shift. Benjamin is Dahlia's son, who received a scholarship from Montiero Holdings.

"One more year and he'll be a lawyer," she said, brown eyes misting as I reached the half-moon-shaped desk. "Thank you for helping us."

"What did I tell you about thanking me?" I reached over the desk and squeezed her fragile shoulder.

She smiled, biting back her tears, nodding. "Are you staying here again? I had Antonia clean the penthouse, and she said someone moved in yesterday?"

I nodded, "she's a friend."

She considered me with her motherly eyes. "I'm glad you finally have a 'friend.""

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Have a nice night, Dahlia."

She hummed, "you too, Mr. Montiero."

Arriving at the penthouse, I buzzed three times, but got no response. I punched in the codes and opened the door. I'd wait for Sofia inside.

"Sure, that kind of date I can accept," I hear Sofia say as she opens the door.

After downing half of Jack's, she finally arrived, only to utter those words.

I let it play. I have Sofia's back profile, the reticent light of the hallway spills inside. My spot on the couch made recognizing the man she was talking to impossible. He leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek. She stood there and watched him leave until the elevator dinged.

It took her a moment before coming inside the penthouse. Like she couldn't believe things turned the way they did. Sofia squealed when she flicked the lights on..

"Chase," she gasped, pressing a hand on her chest.

"Who the fuck was that?" I growled, my molars grinding.

She swallowed hard, clutching the strap of her messenger bag. Her cheeks, red as tomatoes, deepened further. "Er... uhm, a friend I met at the bar."

"Friend?" I huffed, taking a huge pull of Jack's remaining content. "And you are going on a date."

She looked anywhere but me.

"A friendly date," she explained, sighing. She crossed the distance between the door and the couch, flopping down beside me, unaware of the anger swirling in my veins.

I instantly recognize what I'm feeling.

Jealousy.

Possessiveness.

Sofia is mine.

This isn't because I am, her protector, which is f*cking me in the head.

I want her for myself, not as a friend, but as a woman. Rafa is right. As annoying as he may be, he could read right through me. He knew the moment I saw Sofia in my office, everything inside me took a complete 360. "You're f*cking gullible," I murmured under my breath.

Sofia stiffened. She turned to face me, and let out a humorless laugh. "And you are f*cking drunk."

F*ck. I love this feisty side of her. Sofia used to be so sweet. She never talks back to people talking sh*t about her. I was so used to the girl who cried in silence every time she got bullied at school, the girl who needed me to protect her.

She stood up, ready to head to her room. Walking past me, I gripped her wrist and pulled unceremoniously. With a shriek, she fell on my lap.

"Chase!" she gasped, gripping my shoulder. "What the hell is wrong with you?" she groaned, wiggling out of my hold. I only clutched her waist tighter. Holding a woman had never felt this good. My c*ck, which had been asleep the entire time I got my fingers on Monica's p*ssy, jerked beneath my jeans. "Let go..."

"No," I murmured stubbornly, cupping her face.

Sofia froze, meeting me eye to eye.

"No dates," I slurred. Her eyes traipsed over my face. I clutched her nape, my thumb tracing her jawline. "No dates, Sofia."

She bit her lip. "You are not the boss of me..." her words came out as a whisper. "I will date anyone I want. I will have fun... I am single, and no one is allowed to tell me what I should do with my-"

I pressed my lips on hers, and f*ck me. A woman's lips never tasted this sweet, this soft.
