Alpha's One Night Bride
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 94

After spending a few hours at the doctor’s office with Jessica, Jonathan and I decided it was time to head home and spend the rest of the evening with Emee. With Greggory still out there and on the hunt for her, we weren’t nervous about leaving Emee alone any longer than we needed to. Jess hadn’t reached out to either of us since we left for Silverside that morning, so that was definitely a good sign.

I was tired of being away from Emee and wished we could have a bit of normalcy. However, we also needed to figure out a way to protect Ronnie from the wrath of Willa. I was scared that she was going to make her move soon if we didn’t do something about it and I wasn’t even sure what it was we could do to stop her.

I wished more than anything that my mother was there to help us. I stared up at the moon and saw her rays lighting up our passageway home. She was always there watching over us and for some reason she was also watching over Spencer as well. The fact that she trusts Spencer makes me automatically trust him too.

As we got home, Jessica was waiting for us in the living room. She looked tired but the house was quiet which meant Emee was asleep. I kind of wanted to wake her up and move her into our bedroom so that I could keep her close and enjoy some snuggles for the night. I missed her so much and felt as if I wasn’t paying enough attention to her with everything going on.

I felt like a terrible mother.

“Ronnie and Erick are here,” she told us. “Ronnie was a bit nervous about being away from everybody with Willa out there and targeting her. I told them they can sleep in the guest bedroom.”

“Thank you,” I told her softly as I sat down beside her on the couch. “I mean, thank you for everything. I don’t know what we would do without you, Jess.”

She smiled tiredly at me.

“It’s what mothers do,” she told me gently, placing her hand over mine. She gazed up at Jonathan. “It’s the least I could do after everything I had kept from you. I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t worry about it, mom,” Jonathan said, sitting down on the other side of her. “It was a long time ago and we understand why you kept things to yourself.”

“I know,” she said, staring between the two of us. “I just wish there was more I could do. I had no idea Naomi’s sister was in our world and disguised as a wolf. She’s a powerful witch, so she had everything to a T. Scent and all.”

We stayed silent for a long moment as we allowed those words to weigh on us. Willa was powerful and she was even able to replicate the wolf’s scent and the wolf form perfectly. It was scary the kind of things a witch could do. Up until last year, I had no idea witches even existed. I thought they were myths; an old tale surrounding something that actually happened. But then Jess summoned Naomi and my beliefs changed completely.

Naomi disappeared shortly after I gave birth to Emee and I wasn’t even able to say goodbye. I wondered if she knew that her sister was roaming our grounds pretending to be one of us. Wouldn’t she have said something while she was here? Wouldn’t she have tried to stop her if she really was on the side of Jonathan and his family? It didn’t make sense that she would keep something like that from us.

I wished I could ask her some questions about it.

My head shot up as I thought more about that; I looked over at Jess who remained expressionless and deep in her own thoughts. I looked at Jonathan who was also lost in his own thoughts.

“What if there was something you could do?” I asked, staring at Jess.

She looked over at me, confused.

“What do you mean?” She asked.

“I mean, what if you could summon Naomi again?” I asked.

Both Jonathan and Jess looked surprised; but more so surprised like “why didn’t I think of that.”

“I guess I could do that; the red moon is only a week away,” Jess said, glancing over at Jonathan.

He nodded in agreement.

“I was just thinking about asking her if she knew Willa was here and wondering if there was a way to defeat her,” I said in awe.

“She would have told us if she knew Willa was here,” Jonathan told me.

“I know, but we will never know unless we actually ask her. Plus, if she would know how to defeat her,” I told them.

They both nodded in agreement.

“Okay, I’ll get the book out and gather some materials. I did it once, I can do it again,” Jess said, springing her to her feet.

I smiled gratefully at her.

“Thank you,” I told her as she ran out of the door.

I looked over at Jonathan; I knew there was as much hope lingering on my face as I felt. I finally felt as though we had some hope of defeating Willa. We might be able to do this after all. Once we defeat Willa, Greggory will be powerless, and we can defeat him too.

“What’s going on?” Ronnie said from the doorway of the living room.

I turned around, surprised to see her standing there without Erick. She looked tired, but there was worry on her face. She looked a bit paler than she had a few days ago and thin too. She wore a long shirt as a nightgown; it looked to be Erick’s shirt. Her red curly hair fell messily around her shoulders; she rubbed her eyes as she came closer into the room; the green pendant still dangling on her wrist.

“We might have found a way to defeat Willa,” I told her; motioning for her to come to join us on the couch.

Ronnie looked surprised as she sat between Jonathan and me on the couch. I wrapped my arms around her thin body and pulled her close to me in a warm embrace. She placed her head on her shoulder and sighed. I could feel her distress and worry upon contact, and I felt awful she was feeling this way.

“We are going to summon Naomi back,” Jonathan told her. She looked up at him, surprised. “It was Arina’s idea. If anyone can defeat her, it’s Naomi.”

“When are we going to do that?” She asked; her voice cracking slightly as she spoke.

“The red moon is only a week away. That’s the only time we can actually summon a witch,” he answered.

She sighed and nodded slowly.

“What if it’s too late?” She asked, looking up at me, her eyes misty.

“Don’t think like that,” I told her. “We aren’t going to let Willa touch you.”

“She’s one of the most powerful witches there is,” Ronnie reminded us. “We aren’t going to be able to stop her.”

“We are pretty powerful werewolves if you remember correctly,” I looked over at Jonathan who happened to be the Overseer for crying out loud. It doesn’t get more powerful than that.

“She’s right,” Jonathan agreed with me. “I’m not going to let anything happen to you.”

Ronnie gave him a weak smile; I knew she wanted to believe him, but something was eating her up on the inside that left her riddled with worry. More tears began filling her eyes and spilling down her cheeks.

“What is it?” I asked, holding onto her tighter as she cried.

“If Willa acted like my mom my entire life…, is she my actual mother?” She asked.

It was a question I too had when I was in Silverside speaking to Willa. She had indicated that she wasn’t Ronnie’s birth mother, but never actually told us who was Ronnie’s birth mother. I knew Ronnie would have the same question as well, but I was hoping I would be able to answer her fully.

“No,” I answered, she shot me a look. “She told us that she wasn’t your birth mother.”

“Then who is?” She asked.

“We don’t know. But I promise we will find out,” I told her.

Before I could say anything more, there was a knock on the front door, startling us both. We looked at one another with timid frowns on our faces. Jonathan didn’t seem as phased though; he seem as surprised though. He already looked ghost-white and had grief falling over his face almost instantly. He already knew who was at the door and the reasoning behind why they were there.

I was ready to hide Ronnie when Jonathan motioned for me to stay seated. I didn’t argue with him; I watched as he walked over to the door and pulled it open.

I was surprised to see Boris standing there; he looked ghostly. He had a terrified expression, and his eyes were misty as though he’s been crying for a while. I had never seen him looking so distraught before; It worried me.

“Boris…” Jonathan said solemnly.

“It’s Nikini…” Boris said, staring amongst us, his voice breaking slightly. “She’s dead.”

Ronnie and I gasped.

Nikini also had the same bracelet that Ronnie had, indicating that Willa marked her to be killed. My heart broke knowing there was nothing we could do to protect and save her from her fatal ending. Part of me felt guilty for neglecting Nikini.

I wanted to cry but before I could do or say anything, Boris spoke again.

“And Melissa is gone.”
