Chloe's

POV:

I looked around in awe, taking in the large walls of the cave.

"This way," my grandfather said, leaving me down a secluded passage. The place was made of rocks and darkness, but it was amazing how my eyes adjusted to the darkness and I saw everything clear and bright like it were the early hours of the morning.

"Where are we going?" I asked cautiously.

Had to admit that I had been a little taken away with how the interior of this place looked. It had been such a long time since I came here but I had never had the chance to explore the place like I would today. I had only been taken to the throne room and a few other places I couldn't recognize.

"I want to show you something." He turned back to look at me and stretched a hand out but I shook my head in rejection. He snorted. "It is not a surprise for how stubborn you turned out to be, you look and act just like your mother!" I glad at the back of his head, my hands itching to collide with him as he called my mother. I couldn't tell how he was able to do the things he did, but he had to be one hell of a heartless, wicked and insensitive wizard, to do the things he had done and still act so ignorant about all of it. I couldn't wait to get my hand on something, anything that could destroy him and be out of here as soon as I could.

"Make it quick, I am already getting creeped out by this place."

He made a sound at the back of his throat that resembled a groan, but still did not say anything. I could feel the anger radiating off him as his body looked tensed. He still led the way, but this time remembering that I was not one to have a chit chat with him. We weren't friends and we were not about to become a pair. "We are here."

I looked away from the back of his head, tilting my body to the side so I could get a good look at what was ahead. A black metal door. It stood strong and proud and threatening, like it held a lot of dark power in it. "What is this place?" "The masters before us," he started, his chest puffing with pride. "This is a lair for them all. It is like a shrine and I want you to meet all of our ancestors."

He should not have noticed but I took a step backwards, going as far away from him as I could. "No, thanks. I would prefer if you have me a tour around the rest of the he house."

He turned to face me. A muscle in his jaw twitched, his eyes hardening as he tried to hide his anger. My eyes lowered to where his fists were tightly clenched beside him, the veins in his pale neck popping as a deep frown snuck upon his face. "If you say so, to the throne room then..."

I cocked a brow at him, when he made a gesture for me to go first. "Are you serious right now? This is your cave, you should be the one leading the way to wherever the throne room is and not me. Or what do you think?"

He eyed me, walking past me without bothering to ask me to follow.

I did not bother waiting for his invitation anyway, I followed, being careful and looking closely at everything thing we walked by. Strangely, we had left the shady sides of the cave but the place was still eerily quiet and the deeper we went, I could not make out a sound apart from the pitter-patters of our feet again the floor.

"Dracula?"

He made a weird sound in response.

"Why is it so quiet in here?" I waited to see if he was going to respond but he did not. "Where are the rest? Or do you live here all on your own?" He remained silent.

"I thought a coven were supposed to reside here, and you are supposed to be their coven master? Where are they? Did they suddenly go on a vacation?"

He muttered some curses under his breath. Still, he did not reply to any of my questions. I was going to taunt him further, when he replied: "They are all asleep."

I was silent for a minute, not because I suddenly swallowed my tongue, but because my heart suddenly leapt up and rested in my throat, which made it difficult to breath. "Asleep? Who made them fall asleep?"

"I did."

"And why why did you do that?"

The sharp movement of his head as he turned to give me a sharp look had taken me by surprise and I drew in a sharp breath. "I cannot risk anyone seeing you, no more questions, please..."

I swallowed, the question I had been itching to come out also went back down with the saliva. The pout that formed on my lips could not be helped, as I followed him.

After all the turns and bends, we finally entered a lane which looked familiar. I remembered it from my memories, that was the very first time I had stepped into Dracula's cave. It was also the first time ever, that I met my grandfather.

My eyes shone brighter as the memory swirled before my eyes and I could see everything just as it had happened that day. Dracula had stopped but I went forward, until my hands reached out the caress the hand rest of the large throne that was before me. My gaze flickered to the side, right where my brothers Angelo and Jason had stood that day.

Why did I suddenly feel greedy? Why did I suddenly feel like it was only right that I claimed rightful ownership of my mother's throne and be the queen over this magnificent coven just as they wanted me to?

Or not, my demon hissed.

Scratch that, no one had sang me a welcome song, or thrown a party at my arrival. I remembered when I had first come here, they had all been against it, including my brothers. I had also been against becoming coven mistress a few hours ago, what suddenly changed? Why did it feel like my mind was...

"What do you see child?"

I whirled around to see that Dracula was already scrutinizing me with narrowed eyes. He eyed me suspiciously and I gave him a blank look, tying to figure out if he was messing with my mind. I could not think straight, it felt like everything I knew were being taken away and replaced by new things. My mind was clouded, and my feeling fuzzy.

"Do you remember anything?" He took a step closer, and I remained standing right where I was. "Do you remember ever coming into this room?"

I tried to lie, but my tongue would not let me, it only commanded the truth. So instead of speaking out like I ought to, I replied with the shake of my head.

His lips pursed, pressing to form a thin line. He clearly was not pleased and for that, I could not have been more pleased with myself. "What about your parents death? Do you remember seeing me at the scene? Do you know who killed them?" I gave the same reply as the former.

"Damn you! I know you remember something, you seem too relaxed not to know! Or maybe you just do not want to tel... what a second!" His face paled, as realization set in. "Does my spell not work on you?"

Take that, you oaf!

I had my suspicions, the blood bastard had deceived me into this cave and tried to toy withy mind. It was sort of surprising to me that his spell had not worked on me, but who knew? Maybe I was stronger than what him or I thought.

He scoffed, a little chuckle leaving his lips. "Interesting," he muttered. "The prophecies were true, you are just what I need."

I blinked, his words taking their time to sink in. Had he just? "Hey you," I started, dropping the act. "What do you mean by that?"

He eyed me, an evil smirk surfacing on his lips. "I already told that dog you call a husband-"

"My husband is not a dog," I hissed.

He ignored me.

"-I want you to ascend the throne after me, become queen and live on the legacy that your mother tried to ruin."

I eyed him, searching his face thoroughly to see if I would be able to find even as much of a hint that he was joking. Just as you have guessed, I came up with nothing which only meant that he was serious. "On a scale of one to ten, how serious are you?"

"Ten."

I threw my head back, wild laughter escaping my throat and filling the empty space around us. My laughter finally died down, and the amusement immediately wiped off my face. "You really are good at telling unpleasant jokes, are you not? What makes you think I would want to sit on that blood coated throne of yours?" I snarled.

It was his turn to get amused and his clapped, while laughing like I had just told him the biggest joke on the planet. "Of course you will sit on this throne. It is a day I have waited for my whole life and nothing, nobody can stop me..." he hesitated, then ended in a whisper. "Not even that dog of yours."

"He is not a dog," I roared, my eyes glowing a bright green as my wolf reacted to his insult on her mate. "I would not hesitate to pounce on you, if you even as much as utter his name."

He gave me a bored look. "I do not know the werewolf's name, and I do not care to know."

I glared at him. "I will not sit on a throne that had so much blood on it, I will not make an ally of someone at who's hand my parents lives were squeezed from them." I had struck a nerve and I knew it.

His mouth fell open, eye wide and body tensed, as he stared at me in disbelief. "What are you talking about?"

"Oh please," I huffed. "You can forget about pretending, I have no interest in that. All I want is your head, and the heads of all those who took part in the bloody massacre of my parents and their loyal subjects nine months ago!"

His eyes glowed and dimmed, as he fought to keep his emotions in control. It seemed I was not the only one with a bad temper in the family, my grandfather looked like he was about to give up the ghost only struggling not to express his rage. "Did Angelo tell you that?" His voice was so cold that it might have froze up an ocean.

"Did he need to? Do you wish to deny and claim to be guiltless?"

"It is not what you think, child," he said in a surprisingly calm tone of voice.

"I am not your child," I snapped. "Nothing was different, your heart is only too cold to have ever accepted the love that your daughter had for my father, so you murdered her!"

He looked at me for a long while, then huffed. "Alright, I killed her-"

Hearing him admit to it from his own mouth, hurt deeper than I thought it would. My chest ached instantly, my heart racing as I felt for the little dagger I hid in the waistband of my trousers.

"-she betrayed us all, left her kids and went to be with the enemy. Do you know how many times I warned her? Just like you, she was also being stubborn!"

"Then, will you kill me too?! I will never succumb to your will, and just so you know, I remember everything!"

He did not look surprised. "I know you do," he said with pride in his voice. "You possess such power, just the type I need and with what you have shown me today, there is more to even unravel-"

I lost focus in whatever he was saying, my hands tracing the knife. All i had had wanted was some information on how to end him but now, his words had provoked me to a point that I could no longer contain my anger. Before I could pull out the dagger from where I hid it, I was suddenly flung back, and pinned to the wall. My gaze shifted back to Dracula, who was now suspended in the air, looking down at me.

"Invisible shackles," he said. "For centuries, no one under my roof, had ever been able to counter my spells, but you did." He sounded please, like I had done the best thing in the world. "Let's see if you can break those, Chloe... free yourself," he ordered. Bloody bastard! Now I
