Marcus's POV:

I dropped the flute in her outstretched hand. "This is the object that our ancestors used to communicate with other with other magical creatures from different realms. Be it a goblin, a vampire, a witch, anyone at all!" I stepped back, putting a little bit of distance between us. "I will leave now, call his name, tell him what you want to tell and then blow the flute."

I continued moving backwards, my heart tightening in my chest when I saw the sad look in her eyes. How much I hated this idea of hers, but I had no other choice but to at along. She didn't listen when I asked her not to go ahead with her plans, she never listens to me!

I turned my back on her, jogging gradually until I broke into a run. I had left her out in the woods, the part were nobody went. According to her, she wanted to create an opportunity for him to do his very best without any disturbance or interference.

I only let her do that because I didn't want her thinking I did not trust her. It was her darkest moment and as much as it broke my heart, I was going to stand by her and support her in whatever way I could.

My running died down into fast strides and as I passed by Mark's and Lily's house, it suddenly didn't feel so welcoming. It felt like there was some kind of lurking danger emanating from the house. I hurried past them but I wasn't so fast, because Lily called my name. I halted, cursing under my breath as as turned to face her.

"Lily," I gritted out, hoping my forced smile didn't come off as more of a grimace. "How are you? Long time, no see."

She eyed me cautiously, her own smile equally forced. She descended the stairs one at a time, like she was trying to delay the time of her getting to were I stood... waiting. "Where are you coming from?" "The woods, why?" I asked.

"What did you go to do there?"

I raised one brow at her, wondering why she was getting nosy all of a sudden. "I went there to do my business," I replied in a clipped tone.

"Oh... okay," she said, biting her nails nervously. She kept shifting from one foot to the other, her eyes refusing to meet with mine. "So, where is Chloe?"

I was just about to walk out on her, when she asked the question. I turned around to face her, my nose flaring with my anger. "She went to see some friends, you got anymore questions?!"

She shuddered at the harshness of my voice. "Friends? She has no friends aside me," she said with uncertainty laced in her voice. Wherever she had even mustered the courage to ask such a silly question, because she was visibly trembling.

I moved threateningly towards her, and she took a step back. I advanced until I got in her face. "Her best friend have been so busy off late, she made new friends." I saw the hurt and jealousy that crossed her features and I fought hard to hold a smirk. "At least friends that don't snoop behind her back and make plots against her!"

A gasp left her lips, and I saw the shock on her face. Feeling satisfied, I turned around and began walking away from her. The next moment, Lily was standing right in front of me with her arms spread out to block my path.

"Is that what Chloe thinks of me?" She asked in a panicked voice. "Does she really think I will hurt her like that? That I will betray her?"

I was almost convinced, just a little bit convinced. But... "I would not like to shove you out of my way, so get out of my sight before I break you into pieces!"

When I moved around her and walked away, she did not try to stop me this time. I did not even bother turning back to look at her, she was not so important at the moment. I had had Lima follow her for sometime now, he should have some very useful information for me by the time I summon him.

My next stop was at the training grounds. The soldiers made way, bowing their heads in greeting when I stepped into their training ground. I inquired about Titus and they directed me to his office, said he was going through some war plan before coming to deliver it to me. I nodded, saying my thanks. I strode over to his office and as courtesy demanded, I knocked.

"Come in!"

I heard the scraping of a chair and by the time I turned the door knob and got in, Titus was already on his feet with his hands folded in front of him. "Alpha," he greeted with a bow.

"Sit Titus," I said, helping myself into the sit in front of him.

He hesitated, waiting until I had settled myself in before he dropped into his own seat. He went to put the papers away but I placed my hand on the other end of it, sending him a look. "They aren't completely analyzed yet," he said, releasing his hold on the paper.

I picked a couple of them up, nodding in approval as I saw he was doing a great job. I studied the sheets in silence until one particular one caught my eyes. "You are arranging for a new boundary to be made?"

"Yes Alpha," he replied quickly. "It had been tempered with for quite sometime now, and it is getting weak and our people are being exposed to danger. It will be done once you approve, and I will go to the priest mysel-"

"-and why do you keep doing the work of the Beta?" I interjected, still not taking my eyes off the paper. "Where the hell is Mark by the way? He still hasn't returned all my messages."
