Chloe's POV: "Baby-"

Shut the fuck up!

He should have heard my voice in his head. His eyes narrowed, confusion taking over his features. He tried to speak again, but I crossed a finger against my lips, signaling for him to keep quiet.

I watched out of the corner of my eyes when suddenly, the person vanished and I nearly choked on my saliva. A vampire, I thought. Grabbing unto Marcus's hand, I did not bother to give him a warning before grabbing his hand and vanishing. We appeared in our room and he almost staggered due to the unexpected force. I helped him sit on the bed, looking around frantically and I noticed that our bedroom door was cracked halfway open. Not really minding, I rushed over and slammed it, turning in the locks.

I turned back to start talking, but this time; it was Marcus who had a finger crossed against his lips. I got confused, my eyebrows starting to furrow but then, realization hit me as I got the whiff of a very familiar lingering scent. My eyes widened as I looked at Marcus and he nodded, his lips thinning in vexation. I mouthed to him that I would be back and made myself invisible, finding my way into the living room.

She wasn't being quite discreet about her 'snooping around', because she had also left the front door open. I hurried over, walking past all the servants who let her get away without much of a concern. I walked through the wall and I was outside, seeing how she rounded up the corner and was already on her way, hurrying down the road.

My mind went back to when that werewolf had said that there was a traitor amongst us and I wondered, could it be....?

Nah... no way! I couldn't imagine her doing a thing like that to us.

I walked back in and up to my room, only making myself visible after I got in through the wall.

"You also walk through walls?"

I ignored the shocked look on his face, not letting our attention sway away from the most important matters at hand. "I saw her sneaking out of the house," I said, watching his face for any reaction. When he gave me none, I ventured. "Do you think she was the one who led Edwin to us in the woods?"

He considered my question for a while. "Nah... I doubt. If she did that, she knows she has so much to lose, too much to lose. It can't be her, can it?" He also looked as uncertain as I felt.

I heaved a sigh, coming to stand before him. "There was a man." He obviously wasn't getting the hint, as his face contorted into one of absolute confusion. "He was up in the trees."

"In the woods?" He asked as realization started to take over his features. I nodded, making him huff disbelievingly. "Someone broke the barrier, that was why I wasn't even notified when Edwin and his rogues trespassed. Now you tell me that there was someone else in the trees, who exactly am I supposed to take that?"

I thought for a while, knowing that getting panicked wouldn't be solving any issue. Marcus was already having a panic attack and if I joined in, that would just be a one way ticket to throwing us all in confusion. I dropped myself down on the bed. "First of all, tell me what really transpired between you and Edwin. I need to know so you can figure out the source of the problem."

He was too quiet and when I turned to look at him, he was staring at me with fear in his eyes. "Did you believe what he told you?"

I rolled my eyes, a scoff leaving my lips. "That you raped and murdered his wife?" I eyed him with one raised brow. "You can't even do it, even if you were paid to do so I know you can't. So... I am listening."

*****

"So... that was how it happened."

I watched him, seeing that his body was tense and he was waiting for me to reply. Honestly, I didn't know what to say to him. In all that he had said, there was just one big misunderstanding between them all and Edwin was now trying to drag me into it.

"Well," I sighed. "I believe you but while I don't think he is that much of a threat, we also should underrate him. Now we need to figure out who the vampire in the tree was. Never have I seen him before, I don't even remember seeing him in my memories." I paused for a while, as I got flashes of him looking down at us in the forest. "We need to know who he is and whatever it is that he wants."

We stayed in silence, our minds both working up ideas. For the first time since I came here, I truly felt alone and it also felt as if Marcus was the only one I had. How was I supposed to trust anyone else with all that was going around us? "Baby?"

"Hmm," I replied absentmindedly.

There was a long pause, then he spoke again: "what if we called your brother and asked him to help us?" A smile started to form on his lips as he looked impressed with whatever idea was brewing up in his head. "Angelo could tell us who the strange vampire was, or he could at least have an idea of who. He can also lead us to your uncle."

I nodded slowly, agreeing with his suggestion. "That is not a bad suggestion, you know? But I want us to do it alone and together. I can't trust anyone, not even your assistants."
