Chloe's POV:

He stared at me for too long and for a second there, I thought he'd gone dumb. He finally sighed, his eyes rolling down then back up at me. "Why?"

I raised a questioning brow, trying to act like I had no idea of what he was asking. He didn't play along with me or even try to, he just stared right back at me.

I sighed, giving up already. "Marcus locked me up in a room and placed silver all over, so I wouldn't escape." I was talking in whispers and hopefully, there wasn't a listening ear around. "He also told the rest of the pack about me. My life is at risk, help take me out of here, please!"

Silence.

I waited for him to say something, anything, and finally, he did. But only...

"This is a dangerous game you are trying to play, I really do not know what to think of it. Did you guys fight to make you forget stories?"

He didn't believe me.

I also had no strength to argue with him, so I replied: "we have a lot to talk about, and I don't feel comfortable with all the listening ears around. Take me somewhere far from here."

He gave a look of disbelief.

"I am serious Angelo!"

He nodded. "That is that and after we are done talking, I'm bringing you back home."

I nodded quickly, like an obedient little sister. "Wait for me at the boundary separating us from the neighboring pack. I'll see Marcus and come meet you there."

Without a word, he vanished.

I sighed in relief, walking out of the office. I prayed and hoped that Marcus wasn't around, it would be easier to leave that way without any drama. I took quiet steps up the stairs, being as careful not to make a sound. When I got to our bedroom door, I knocked to see if I'll get any response, but nothing.

I pushed the door open, not bothering to look around as I ran straight for the closet. I picked out clothes that were suitable for walking long distances, then I divested myself of all my clothing and hopped into the shower. It was a two seconds bath and in the next one minute, I was dressed in a black jumper, topped with a long black jacket and big black ankle boots.

"What is the occasion?"

My back stiffened, tension coursing through me. I heard his large footsteps, as he walked towards me. Large arms encircled my waist and our eyes met through the mirror. My heart started to beat faster, as his lips gently teased my neck. I moaned softly, my eyes started to flutter shut and I quickly moved out of his arms to keep myself in order. He tried to grab me again but I stopped him, placing my hands on his chest. "Stop it."

He sighed, looking down at me with sad eyes. "I'm sorry for all I have put you through baby, and I'd like to explain everything to you. Let's sit and talk, after you are done with Angelo," he said. "Too late," I replied, rolling my eyes away from him. "I am leaving."

He eyed me cautiously. "What do you mean by you are leaving?"

"I am going back home with my brother, that's what I mean."

He regarded me with narrowed eyes, a snort escaping him. "Do I seem like a joke to you? Does this pack seem like a joke to you? You can't just up and leave whenever you feel like it!"

"That is why I want you to 'unmate' me! You see all these," I gestured by swinging my hands around. "They aren't mine. I am going where I am loved and accepted!

Marcus stared at me with hurt filled eyes. "So... what about me? He took a step forward and I took one backward until my derriere connected with the vanity table and I sat on it. "You are just going to let go of me like that?"

"I never had you in the first place," I muttered under my breath. "No matter how I try, I would never be good enough for you nor your subjects." A tear slipped out of my eye, but I caught it before Marcus could see it. He gave me a straight look. "I need you-"

"No, you don't."

"-this pack needs you!"

"They definitely do not need me," I gritted out.

"You are their Luna, Chloe. You need to make them accept you a-"

"And you think I haven't tried?" My voice shook with anger, as I remembered the conversation I heard earlier in the forest. "You and your subjects, are conspiring to kill me!" I jabbed a finger at his chest with every word I said.

His face paled like he had seen a ghost, he looked at me with sheer disbelief and shock registered all over his face.

"Oh," I started, giving him a haughty look. "So you thought I wouldn't find out? Why do you look so shocked? Speak up! Or did you suddenly swallow your tongue?"

"Where... where did you pick up that kind of outrageous thought?"

I had to scoff. "What kind of stupid question is that? Are you really dumb or are you only trying to tease me?"

His face contorted into one of great anger nd for a while there, I thought he was going to shout at me or probably, hit me. Instead, his eyes went shut and he took a deep calming breath. "Sweetheart," he called in a calm voice. "Can you please explain properly to me, so I understand where you are coming from?"

Did he really not know or was he just pretending? He really did look clueless and disturbed.

"If you like; understand what I'm telling you, if you like; don't. I no longer care, I'm going home to my grandfather."

Marcus gave me a dead look, then his laughed like something I had said had amused him. "On whose permission? Because if it is mine, I won't left out of this house!" He growled, giving me a challenging look.

I gave him one right back, a deep taking over my facial features. "I wouldn't need your permission, after we reject each other! You have no use for me other than sex, so let me go where I can be used for better things!" "That is not true Chloe and you know it! Damn! How do you even come up with such horrible ideas!"

He raised his hands up and they descended to slam on the table beside me, causing me to tremble slightly. His glare softened when our faces were just a breath apart. His gaze flickered to my lips and I had to tighten my legs because of the emotion that started to stir up in the meeting place between them.

"I heard it, saw it and I know it," I whispered in a breathy voice. "I will never be good enough for you, you will never see me as your equal or let me in. I think you should be with a woman you see worthy enough to be Luna, I will always just remain a dainty little girl in your eyes."

He shifted back, watching my face like he was trying to read something off me. "Why would you say something like that? What did I do, to make you feel that way about me?"

I tried to get into his thoughts again, but the ever constant barrier was still up. I shook my head, a bitter laugh slipping out of me. "Even up till the very end, you still keep your thoughts away from me. Why is that?"

"Chloe I-"

I raised a palm, silencing him. "Nope, I'll tell you why." My anger returned harder this time and I held back strongly, angry tears tried to make their way to my eyes. "It is because you don't see me for enough to go through this... this... whatever it is with you. You don't want a child meddling in your affairs because you believe I'm not smart enough or strong enough to handle it all. You see me weak!"

His mouth clamped shut and he didn't make the slightest move to deny it. He looked at me, his face fallen in shame. He took my hand, taking it to his lips. He kissed the back of my hand so sensually, that my knees almost gave out under me. He raised his head to meet with my eyes.

"Baby," he started. "I have been so unfair to you and I am so sorry my love. I have no defense for what I have done, but I beg that you give me a chance to get it right this time." He took my hand which he was still tightly holding onto and placed it right above his heart. "Here, you can read me however you want and I promise you henceforth, I wouldn't keep anything from you."

I shook my head in refusal, trying to pry my hand out of his grip but he only tightened his hold.

"No baby, don't deserve that. I want you to know that never did I have any intentions of harming you." His hand grabbed my cheek and he rubbed there gently. "If I harm you, I harm myself..."

His heartbeat increased under the feel of my palm. I wanted to believe him, I really wanted to believe him but I couldn't. Everything around us proved that he didn't need me and it would be too pathetic to fall back, just because he spoke a few loving words. He did that all the time!

"No," I gave him a hard look, forcefully snatching my hand out of his hold. "It is already too late and my mind is made up," I hissed. "I no longer care for whatever it is we have between us, I just want to leave and never come back!" His eyes hardened and his nodded with an evil glint in his eyes. "There is no stopping you now, is there?"

"Do not even bother looking for me!"

He chuckled, but his face remained unamused. "Then, I have no option but to do this." He moved so fast that I hadn't even realized what he was about to do until I felt the burns of the silver when it mistakenly touched me. But before he could even lock my wrists, he was pushed away from me, more like; something had flung him into the air.

"Marcus!" I watched with wide eyes when I saw Marcus groaning on the floor and as I made a moved to run to him, a hand shot out and grabbed me. I turned to see Angelo by my side, glaring darkly at Marcus and at that moment, I fear that he was going to kill him.

"When my sister told me you isolated and locked her up, I didn't believe her. I never believed that you would do something so cruel to her, you promised to protect her!"

"Everything I do, I do it for her own protection!" Marcus growled back at Angelo. "Get away from her, you're filling her head with evil thoughts!"

Angelo ignored him. He turned to me, his eyes raking all over me in concern. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you?"

I assured him I was fine, then turned back to Marcus. "You see the stunt you just pulled right now? That is exactly what I was talking about. Until you learn to trust my decisions, I cannot stand beside you!"

"You can never comprehend what Chloe is capable of doing," Angelo added, turning to stare admiringly at me. "It's sad that she lost her parents at such a young age, and also do not have someone to help unravel her abilities. You underrate her too much!"

Marcus eyes hadn't left mine the whole time and mine, his. I wouldn't dent the fact that I was going to miss him terribly, but I also wanted him to know my worth. To see me worthy enough of ruling over his people alongside him. Love wasn't just enough!

"Let us go Chloe," Angelo said, vanishing beside me.

I gave Marcus one last look, and disappeared into thin air.
