After the Eight Years of Love I Gave Up -
Chapter 40
Love Story4 - Chapter 9
Time flew by, and soon it was the company's 30th anniversary celebration.
My dad took this event very seriously, so it was held at our family's five-star hotel. Employees could bring family members, there were lucky draws with generous prizes, and employees were even given three days of paid leave. I didn't want to see my parents showing affection, so I arrived early by myself.
I had only been with the group for a month and was still considered a newcomer. With the previous online rumors, colleagues who didn't know my true identity avoided me.
So I stood alone in a corner of the banquet hall, quietly sipping champagne. In their eyes, I must have looked pitiful, since no one came to greet me, but I was actually observing everyone.
"Amara, does it feel bad to be ostracized and isolated?" Cara's mocking voice came from behind.
Turning around, I saw Cara wearing a bright red strapless mini dress, with exquisite makeup. It was clear she had put a lot of effort into her appearance.
She was on the arm of Daniel, who was wearing a gray suit.
Daniel had styled his hair meticulously. I had to admit, clothes do make the man. Daniel's looks were above average, and in a suit, he did have some charm.
"Daniel, I have to say, you've dressed up quite nicely today. You look quite handsome," I said leisurely.
Daniel's smile immediately stiffened.
I raised my glass and put on a smile: "Who says only a talented man and a beautiful woman make a perfect match? A scumbag and a shrew deserve blessings too. Don't you two agree? Here's to you." Cara couldn't smile anymore either.
"You man-stealing bitch, I'll beat you to death today." Cara raised her hand and was about to come at me when a "Cara" stopped her.
It was Olivia.
She was wearing a black evening gown today. She walked over and looked me up and down disdainfully, saying carelessly. "Cara, when dealing with women like her, never use your hands.
If you hit her, your own hand will hurt too."
Cara thought she had found someone to back her up and immediately became more confident: "Cousin, then what should we do?"
Olivia loved looking down on me from her high horse: "Amara, you sure live up to your reputation as someone who's hooked up with Mr. Hart. But today, Mr. Hart's family is coming too. I'm afraid he won't be able to look after you specially today." I raised an eyebrow: "So?"
Olivia directly splashed the red wine in her hand towards my face. I was caught off guard and let out a surprised cry. The gazes of people around us turned towards me, and everyone started whispering.
Cara put on the pose of a high and mighty victor, deliberately raising her voice: "Amara, you need to be down-to-earth in everything you do. Don't think that just because you used some tricks to get ahead, you can always get away with it." Are these two out of their minds?
"Everyone look, Mr. Hart's family has arrived," someone said.
Everyone's eyes were darting between Mr. Hart's family and me, as if an exciting show was about to begin.
Mrs. Hart's eyes turned towards me, filled with anger.
The gossip souls of my colleagues burned even brighter:
"Is Mrs. Hart looking at Amara? Her eyes look like she wants to swallow Amara alive."
"Oh my, Amara's in trouble now. That's what she gets for seducing Mr. Hart. caught red-handed by the original wife." "The good show is up."
